    Ghost Recon gets novel treatment

by Jonathan Gronli on Nov 23, 2008 at 11:18 PM

Tom Clancy is a man who can pride himself on spinning a taut tale of political intrigue from real-world international tensions. With Rainbow Six he brought his incredibly accurate, technically correct style for writing about military, paramilitary and espionage groups to video games.

Reversing that trend, books based on various Tom Clancy video games have been published since 2004. Ghost Recon is now following the trend that was set by Splinter Cell and Endwar with the currently available novel titled Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon ($9.99, Berkley Publishing) . David Michaels, the author who brought Splinter Cell and Endwar from games to books, has just put out the first of what may be many Ghost Recon novels.

First thing we have to address is that David Michaels is a pseudonym for…

Tom Clancy’s Endwar bringing the battles to DS, PSP

by Jeremy Hill on Oct 20, 2008 at 10:12 PM

Tom Clancy’s Endwar is one of the most unique real time strategy games coming out this year. It incorporates voice technology that allows us to control the game like a general looking at multiple screens at once. A demo was recently released on Xbox Live and lets us participate in an online match or an offline skirmish.

Endwar is also coming out for the Playstation 3 on November 7, 2008, but the fun doesn’t stop there. Ubisoft has confirmed that Endwar will also be coming out on the DS and PSP consoles in time for the holiday season.

The handheld versions will not implement the voice control interface the consoles version have. Instead, it will…

    Piracy slowly killing PC games

by Jonathan Gronli on Oct 10, 2008 at 10:53 AM

In May 2008, Crytek announced that it will be abandoning PC exclusivity due to problems with pirated copies of Crysis. Now, Ubisoft Shanghai creative director Michael de Plater revealed to Videogaming247 reasons why the copany won’t bring the anticipated EndWar to the PC.

Ubisoft has been having such big problems with piracy of Assassin’s Creed that they sued the disc’s manufacturers, Optical Experts Manufacturing. This is because the PC-version was leaked to the public two months before the…

It has only been little over a month since Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 was released, unfortunately fans have been complaining about a number of bugs and glitches in both the single player campaign, and the multiplayer. Thankfully Ubisoft, the makers of Rainbow Six, have had their ears to the ground and are taking into account the issues that its fans have been having with a large update to the popular game.

Ubisoft did state in its official forum that it is currently working on an upcoming update for PS3 users, but there hasn’t been any release date planned for these fixes.

    Preview: Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X

by Christopher Buckner on Apr 21, 2008 at 10:35 AM

A month after Ubisoft announced it had acquired the rights to the entire Tom Clancy universe, Ubisoft debuted a new independent Clancy game. Surprisingly, it isn’t a tactical shooter. It’s a flight simulator.

Titled Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X, (apparently thinking it is still cool to misspell words with an “X”) Ubisoft is hoping to take a chunk out of Namco’s popular flight simulation game, the Ace Combat Series. H.A.W.X will still be set in the Tom Clancy universe and will feature a number of notable characters from previous Clancy games including the Captain Mitchell and…

Tom Clancy game name now belongs to Ubisoft

by Christopher Buckner on Mar 22, 2008 at 07:48 AM

They say that everyone has their price, well apparently Tom Clancy has found his, as he has signed away not just his entire universe that is based around his international hit books, but even his own name. And who did he sell out to? Well the French of all people.

Ubisoft announced March 20, 2008, that it has acquired all intellectual properties (IP) centered on and around the entire Tom Clancy universe. Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment (a subsidiary of Ubisoft), created by Tom Clancy back in 1996, have had a long-standing relationship when it comes to the development of video games based around the…

Rumors: Ubisoft planning Tom Clancy MMO

by Christopher Buckner on Mar 21, 2008 at 05:50 PM

In an interview with Next Gen , Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot stated, “we’ve really decided now to go for an MMO on the Clancy name, which is big.“

There is some question as to what point in the Tom Clancy universe will the MMO be set in, or even if it will be based around any of the existing properties. Now that Ubisoft owns all the IP rights to the Clancy universe, any revenue made by the…
