Spotted at GameStop: Splinter Cell: Conviction release date fail

by Jeremy Hill on Jan 30, 2010 at 02:42 PM

You would imagine if anyone stays on the cutting edge of videogame news and release dates it would be the all knowing gurus that work at GameStop. They’re so good at reminding you to put down $5 for pre-orders on games months in advance and never hesitate to tell you how much you need a strategy guide. Could it be possible that this gaming retail giant can relay incorrect information to countless customers? Not only is it possible, but in this case it’s just plain sad.

Last Monday (January 25, 2010) I was at one of my local GameStop stores waiting for the midnight release of Mass Effect 2. In between discreetly staring at the weird hairstyles of other customers and playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I decided to take a look at the wall of new and upcoming releases. Did you know Splinter Cell: Conviction has been out for months? Neither did we.

My GameStop still has the old label in the packaging that encourages your to pre-order Splinter Cell: Conviction before it’s released in Fall 2009.

We can understand how things can get overlooked at retail, but a high profile videogame release the likes of Splinter Cell: Conviction is a tough pill to swallow – especially when many months have passed. It’s time for my GameStop to print out some more release date labels to slide in those cases.

The real release date for Splinter Cell: Conviction is April 2010 for Xbox 360 and PC.
