Important Importables
Jenni Lada brings us information about all of the groovy new gaming imports from around the world.
Remember that pretty good PSPgo promotion Gamertell told you about last Saturday? You know, the one where anyone who buys a PSPgo between February 18 and March 21, 2010, gets to download a free copy of Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines or LittleBigPlanet?
Turns out the PSPgo buyer, who just spent $249 on their new system, doesn’t get to choose which game he or she gets.
Joystiq just reported the news today, Joystiq readers tipped off the site, complaining that a free game was assigned to them instead of getting a choice. Joystiq contacted Sony, which confirmed that this is just how Sony rolls.
See, here’s what happens. Once you either log in to or create your account, Sony checks your age. Anyone under 17 gets emailed a LittleBigPlanet redemption code, and anyone over 17 gets a code for Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines. No freedom of choice. Adults get the “Mature” rated game and teenagers and kids get the game rated “Everyone.”
Isn’t that just wonderful? You spend all that money supporting a company, maybe even buy the PSPgo just because of this limited promotion, and then you get assigned a game! I can understand not giving minors a choice, since Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines is rated “Mature,” but adults should get to choose what they want. I’m sure Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines is a great game, even though it only has a score of 63 at Metacritic, but if I were to trade my PSP-3000 for a PSPgo and take part in this, I’d want LittleBigPlanet! And I’d be mad if I got stuck with a subpar game just because of my age.
I guess a lot of recent PSPgo buyers might be providing false birthdates on their new PlayStation Store accounts between now and March 21.
