Left Behind Games targeting Xbox 360, Wii after Walmart success

by Brian Allen on Jan 27, 2010 at 09:43 AM

In an effort to test the market for Christian-themed games, Left Behind Games ran a promotion with 100 Walmart stores in Dallas and Houston, Texas. The company chose Texas because it has the highest number of evangelical Protestants in the United States.

Left Behind Games announced that the Left Behind: Tribulation Forces and Charlie Church Mouse games sold out before Christmas 2009 and sales of the three-year-old Left Behind: Eternal Forces are still strong. The Left Behind titles are based on the best selling book series while Charlie Church Mouse is an educational series aimed at preschoolers.

In its latest press materials, Left Behind Games vows to move past the PC and focus on the Xbox 360 and Wii for future development (although it doesn’t mention the PlayStation 3. Maybe there are just too many heathens playing that console).

The company has also entered an agreement with videogame representative firm SMP Communications to help get Christian-themed games into more retail outlets.

We are likely still a long ways away from seeing Charlie Church Mouse join the likes of Mario and Sonic as household gaming names. However, if Left Behind Games can continue its push into retail stores they could not just corner a market but create one that really didn’t exist.
