  • RE: Gamertell Review: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Endgame novel by David Michaels [Gamertell]
Don't get me wrong. Conviction and Endgame do work. It's just that Endgame works a bit better. Rather than giving us the feeling that "we've been here before," Endgame ended up breathing some new life into the novels. It was a different perspective that gave a fresher look at Fisher. I mean Conviction is essentially The Bourne Identity mixed with 24 if originally thought of by Tom Clancy and followed up on by David Michaels. If you've read The Bourne series, the rest of the Splinter Cell books, any of the 24 novels and watched any season of 24, you've read Conviction ahead of time.
  • RE: E3 2009: More details about Mass Effect 2 [Gamertell]
OK, where to start. First off I am sorry that you thought of the article as crap. I also won't try to say anything that would sound like I'm saying that I'm perfect. One of the things that you are complaining about is the one slip up in the console spread. We're not the first people to do this. Sure we might not have fixed that mistake yet like some other places that ended up being able to do interviews with parts of the development team where more details and a clearly stated console spread were released at a later time during the convention. While that one mistake is regrettable it does not negate the rest of the information in the article. Another thing you brought up is the fact that it's a trilogy to try to argue against both the article (in regards to the console spread), history in regards to industry contracts for exclusivity sometimes don't hold a lot of weight. How many company exclusives ended up jumping to other consoles, if not right away sometime later? Final Fantasy used to be a Nintendo exclusive and then it went to Sony, PC, Xbox and Xbox 360. Resident Evil used to be a Sony and PC exclusive and then it jumped to the Dreamcast (which they said Code Veronica would've been a Dreamcast exclusive and then that jumped to Sony), the Gamecube (which they remade the original series as well as two new games: a prequel and Resident Evil 4 both of which were supposed to be Gamecube exclusives and that only remained true for the prequel) and then Sony and the 360 for RE5. The Metal Gear series started off a Nintendo exclusive, then went to a Sony exclusive to having work on both Nintendo Gamecube and PS2 back to Sony exclusive to soon having a 360 installment. Final Fantasy used to be a Nintendo exclusive and then went to Sony, PC and soon to be 360 when we thought that FFXIII was going to be a PS3 exclusive and that changed before FFXIII was even done in development. So saying there's no chance that the trilogy would make the jump to the PS3 is just as ridiculous as you think that one mistake is. There are other examples like Silent Hill (originally a Sony exclusive), Doom (originally a PC exclusive), The Elder Scrolls Oblivion (it was originally supposed to be 360 and PC only), etc. Sometimes exclusivity contracts just amount to companies behind consoles saying "OK, we get this first."
  • RE: Gamertell Review: The Horus Heresy: Horus Rising by Dan Abnett [Gamertell]
Well the British dialect of English can be incredibly difficult if you don't understand the dialect to begin with. It really doesn't steal away from the quality. If it did I wouldn't have given the book quite as good of a score. But then again that would be coming from an American mindset and I wouldn't have been doing my job due to American-centrism.
  • RE: A few of our favorite Lovecraft-inspired games [Gamertell]
Eternal Darkness was an incredible game.
  • RE: Army to spend $50 million on training games [Gamertell]
It's ugly and unpredictable. At least with war as it is now, there is a cost and it makes war the last option of many leaders. Now it's a regrettable decision for many leaders. With war as a game, it'll become a common factor of everyday life. If anything goes wrong since war will become such a common place, no one would really care. Basic psychology.
  • RE: How To: Build decks for Two-Headed Giant (2HG) Magic tournaments [Gamertell]
No problem. If this helps out at least one person I've done my job.
  • RE: Man hacks Chrono Trigger to propose to girlfriend [Gamertell]
Awww. That is cute. Incredibly nerdy but to each their own.
  • RE: Alan Wake is alive! New trailer confirms game's reemergence [Gamertell]
This makes me think of a mixture of Silent Hill and The Dark Half. Hopefully it does make its way out to the public.
  • RE: Max Payne movie brings maximum pain to 3D Realms' CEO [Gamertell]
Honestly, it did catch the essence of the game. The thing that didn't work is the fact that they occasionally made things too big. The movie isn't bad because what it did worked, not as well as people would've liked but not as badly as if it were directed by Uwe Boll. It was adequate when a lot of films don't even reach adequate.
  • RE: Piracy slowly killing PC games [Gamertell]
Actually Midway Games is also lessening its PC title development as well because of piracy problems that they had with Stranglehold and Blacksite: Area 51.
  • RE: Piracy slowly killing PC games [Gamertell]
oops. Last paragraph I meant all you need is a computer that's able to support an emulator, not a copy.
  • RE: Piracy slowly killing PC games [Gamertell]
Not disputing the fact that it is expensive. Then again, prices drop-especially if the product isn't selling. Also with gaming it's an industry seeking out the next best thing(s). So if a game starts being old news, to get more sales, price would drop as well. Regardless of the fact that there is a free and easy way to get PC games, albeit one that is seen as illegal since it infringes on copyright laws, there are still people who prefer to either wait for the price to drop or would just get the game if they can afford it. Cutting out an entire demographic because there are those who do find pirated copies of games seems a bit extreme. Either way, it's not like it's impossible to get pirated games for consoles either. All you really need is either a copy that's able to support the emulator and the ISOs/ROMs or the willingness to put a mod chip into their console.
  • RE: Gamertell Review: Postal: The Movie on DVD [Gamertell]
I'll be honest. I couldn't even get through the first 5 minutes sober and I tried multiple times. Oh well. To each his own.
  • RE: Wahlberg still hasn't played Max Payne [Gamertell]
It's not entirely necessary for him to play the game to get the character right though. I mean Max Payne is just one of those characters where if the script is well-written he literally jumps off the page. Then again that's with the general style of film that the game and movie is going for. The film noir anti-hero motif is one that's just very straight forward.
  • RE: Gamertell Review: The Horus Heresy: False Gods by Graham McNeill [Gamertell]
    Those ARE bigger bolter rifles.
  • RE: Studies indicate video games may help teach positive life-long skills [Gamertell]
Wrong. For "Informal Scientific Reasoning in Online Game Forums" they used the forums for WoW as the basis for the studies saying that gamers who worked together exhibited more scientific reasoning than other games and also leveled quicker than the lone wolves.
  • RE: War on Terror: The Board Game [Gamertell]
http://waronterrortheboardgame.com/reviews/quotes.php I seem to have slipped into the path of becoming a quote whore.
  • RE: Silent Hill Homecoming release pushed back at least two more months [Gamertell]
Yeah. Probably should've been a little more specific. Silent Hill Origins was not developed by the original team. However, Homecoming is the first console/PC-only game from the franchise not developed by the original. Origins was originally released for the PSP handheld and then was ported to the PS2, though the port was a little shoddy since they didn't factor in the extra joystick or two extra shoulder buttons to be utilized. That made the PS2 a bit awkward in terms of control for the people who played 1-4 on the PS2.
  • RE: Enforcing game ratings may be a waste of time [Gamertell]
Yeah and there are also parents who make the unfortunate get "M" rated games for children younger than 13. Since you likened it to movies, when I went to see Freddy vs Jason while it was in the theaters about eight groups of parents had children as young as six in the audience with them. I ended up going back to observe the audience two more times and the group of children brought by parents got younger. Also the ESRB rating system is based off of how offensive it can be. What is offensive to someone else and would warrant a "M" rating to that person, doesn't necessary match up to another person's personal view of what is offends him/her. This makes the ESRB inconsistent in rating as well.
  • RE: Enforcing game ratings may be a waste of time [Gamertell]
That's essentially one of the things that I was pointing out when I wrote up a story about the ESRB. Ratings are only good if they're followed but since parents don't check things out before they buy the games, the ratings currently are ineffective and entirely unnecessary.
  • RE: Gamertell Review: The Horus Heresy: Horus Rising by Dan Abnett [Gamertell]
We try to keep things recent but since I was planning and reviewing at least the books in the series that came out this year I thought it best to at least write up on the first one. Though honestly the more I think about it, it might actually be wiser to do it in chronological order. It would make me building up to the newer ones easier.
  • RE: Gamertell Review: The Horus Heresy: Horus Rising by Dan Abnett [Gamertell]
It's an enjoyable series with one of the best storylines out there. More reviews to come on the series, even if I only review the newest books now.
  • RE: Rant: Stop blaming, banning videogames for real-world violence [Gamertell]
Thank you Rob and kjghj. Gaming is something that I'm passionate about. I hate how it always comes down to "the media made him do it." People need to take responsibility for their actions and accept the consequences. Games don't make people go crazy. Games keep people from going crazy, or give people who are already insane an outlet so they can seem at least halfway normal.
  • RE: Opinion: MADD shouldn't be so mad about Beer Pong's E rating [Gamertell]
Thanks Erg. And Will. I am not one of the people to talk to about getting a job here. I'm just a writer.
  • RE: Godfather II becomes a game [Gamertell]
Sweet. The best movie in the trilogy getting a game. Yes Godfather II is the best movie in the trilogy. Why? There are few movies where everyone just clicks. Godfather almost hit it dead on. Godfather II just had more memorability, everyone was used to working with everyone else so they clicked better and just everything about the second was incredible. I'd be ashamed if Godfather III got a game adaptation.
  • RE: The eerily realistic politics of Blacksite: Area 51 [Gamertell]
Actually I know quite a few people who have played the 360 and PC versions. The only complaint they gave was that Midway plasters its name on any plain white sign they can making the game a big in-house ad while also being incredible political commentary. The only people that I know who gave complaints regarding the game was that the game's politics were too damning for their taste. Then again my response to that was simple. It was "Meh."
  • RE: Gears of War book trilogy coming [Gamertell]
Only one thing I can say to this. Sweet.
  • RE: Sony Sidekick PSP mashup design [Gamertell]
Interesting concept. Horrid video. So ridiculously campy to the point where it's just bad...and not funny and attention grabbing bad.
  • RE: E3 2008: Microsoft revitalizing Xbox 360 through video content, personalization and games [Gamertell]
Yeah Microsoft is looking strong since they're diversifying but the thing that is really going to help them is the fact that they are also getting Final Fantasy XIII which anyone who knows anything about RPGs has been waiting for. That's one of the real pivotal games that would've shifted the balance from a battle between the 360 and the Wii to being a battle between the PS3 and the 360.
  • RE: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Online confirmed by Riccitielo [Gamertell]
Note it is not a model for SW Galaxies. It's taking KOTOR and making it an MMO. Honestly KOTOR lends itself to an MMO. One of the things though that would be a really interesting MMO would be an Elder Scrolls MMO.
  • RE: More on MAG the self-proclaimed "massive action game" [Gamertell]
I heard about this and it was one of the games that made me want to get a PS3.
  • RE: Castlevania Judgment goodness revealed at E3 2008 [Gamertell]
Order of Ecclesia looks incredible though. It will also be the first Castlevania game on a handheld that you don't spend all or most of the game in Dracula's castle.
  • RE: E3 2008: A little more about Gears of War 2 [Gamertell]
    That we should bro.
  • RE: E3 2008 offers a bit more about Halo Wars [Gamertell]
In a battle, since there is no such thing as perfect strategy both sides tend to get mauled.
  • RE: E3 2008 offers a bit more about Halo Wars [Gamertell]
not necessarily true. Yes. In quite a few battles humanity got mauled. However, humanity also put up a fight and won battles as well. Read the books Dan.
  • RE: E3 2008: A little more about Gears of War 2 [Gamertell]
Move very quick. Use a lot of cover. Fire and don't stop until one of you is dead or just use the hammer of dawn.
  • RE: Build your castle in The Legacy of Holy Castle [Gamertell]
hmm. seems interesting. trying it out.
  • RE: Magic: The Gathering changes to be implemented October 3, 2008 [Gamertell]
It's a strategy game, an rpg and a card game all mixed in to one. The reason people like it is because of the fact that it makes you think about everything. It makes you consider what you can do with the resources at your disposal. It makes you consider everything your opponent might be able to do with theirs. It makes you consider the abilities of your creatures, artifacts and enchantments in play and the abilities of creatures, artifacts and enchantments that your opponent has in play. Little bro, I know your biggest exposure to Magic is the game Battlegrounds, which is a sub-standard game in comparison to the early computer games, the dreamcast game and the card game. Your other exposure is book III of the Kamigawa cycle of books based on the game as well. It doesn't really give much of the story of a game that is currently in roughly 68 sets, soon to be 69. Look for more of the books and for the early computer games and you'll understand a bit more on why the franchise has the pull that it does.
  • RE: The trouble with Uwe Boll [Gamertell]
Here's the thing with games and game-based movies/fiction. The reason games are often adapted into books or film is because there are a lot of aspects to the story that really aren't addressed. Like the fall of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team in Resident Evil wasn't addressed until Resident Evil 0. Even then they didn't fully flesh out the story, even though the novels did a wonderful job at showing the mindsets of everyone in the story. Halo only follows Master Chief and the Arbiter (in Halo 2 and 3) but not so much with the other Covenant or the other humans. Game-based fiction and films are just extensions of the story that try to make sense of everything.
  • RE: Nuclear War the card game [Gamertell]
Yes they were very active in that time but the majority of terrorism that wasn't being done in the area of Israel due to differing political, sociological and political ideologies was being done anywhere else that the United States was interfering in one way or another. An example is the multiple political coups in Latin America. Also the guerrilla warfare and government scare tactics in Batista's Cuba, which was supported by the United States until it was obvious that he wasn't preserving stability. As well as the multiple "disappearings" that happened in nations like Argentina, Chile, Columbia, etc. As for why I'm up at 3:00 a.m. I'm on break and have nothing better to do.
