Inspired by the boom of technology blogs, and my outright passion for gadgets, I started Gadgetell in October of 2005 while a senior at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.  Since then, Adam Berger and I (not related) have expanded Dabbledoo Media by starting Appletell and Gamertell.

  • RE: Pre Launching June 6! Extra fees for Exchange Support? [Gadgetell]
Wow I am so extremely disappointed with how they just let the cat out of the bag a couple weeks before the launch. Have they heard of buzz marketing? The release date was the one secret thing they had going for them, and no they've blown that. Not impressed.
  • RE: RIM dubs its store "BlackBerry App World" [Gadgetell]
Ahh yes, that's different! It's a World, not to be confused with a Store or a Marketplace. They made a mistake... they should've called it Flea Market. :)
  • RE: Appletell announces "Appletellcast" weekly podcast [update] [Appletell]
Looking forward to the show guys!
  • RE: Ten percent of users own netbooks? [Gadgetell]
These kinds of surveys are distorted. Instead of 10% of users, this is more appropriately 10% of users that use PriceGrabber own netbooks. We all know that the type of traffic PriceGrabber gets is mainly from tech sites and others that have shopping portals through them. We could also call this 10% of techies that use PriceGrabber own netbooks. Eh?
  • RE: Did Apple just steal Palm Pre's lunch? [Gadgetell]
I'm going to go ahead and patent QWERTY buttons sitting on top of a touch screen. Is that cool with everyone? OK, great. This is absurd. Someone has to pull prior-art on Apple with this one. Patenting multi-touch is not going to fly. Think of all of the patents companies like Microsoft have with the Surface, Intel probably has, etc. We'll see where this one goes...
  • RE: Who's on Crack in Tech: 1.16.08 [Gadgetell]
Come on guys... it's soooo life-like!
  • RE: How To: Sync Google Calendar with your iPhone over the air [Gadgetell]
Sounds like an opportunity for NuevaSync. They could allow their service to pull in data from multiple Exchange servers and push them all out via their single server to your phone. Now we're talkin!
  • RE: How To: Sync Google Calendar with your iPhone over the air [Gadgetell]
I just set up a shared Google Calendar for my wife and I, set up NuevaSync accounts for both of us, and synced the shared calendar to both of our phones. Now I can add an event on my iPhone, and it will show up on her iPhone when she syncs next. Perfect for sending planned "I love you" alerts throughout the day. :)
  • RE: President of Belkin apologizes for Bayard's actions [Gadgetell]
This situation brings up a great discussion which I may do a post on in the near future... Belkin got caught asking for and submitting fake product reviews to sites like Amazon, but can you imagine how many other manufacturers out there are submitting fake reviews and raves that haven't gotten caught? Just shows that you have to take everything you read on public reviews sites with a grain of salt.
  • RE: Is 3D video all that it's cracked up to be? [Gadgetell]
That's my problem with 3D. I almost always get a headache.
  • RE: Is 3D video all that it's cracked up to be? [Gadgetell]
At this point, 3D video is all marketing. There was no consumer cry-out for 3D video in 2008, and there won't be in 2009. High-def video is enough for me at this point, and most other people don't even care about that. Some people that are not tech-savvy or artsy like you and I can't even see the difference between HD and standard-def video, and frankly don't care. What makes companies think people will care about 3D video?
  • RE: Palm webOS app store dubbed App Catalog, SDK out to select partners [Gadgetell]
Thanks for the correction, GMZ. You are correct, it is Catalog. I've updated the post to reflect the change.
  • RE: Palm webOS app store dubbed App Catalog, SDK out to select partners [Gadgetell]
Yep -- most of us here at Gadgetell are excited at the prospect of Palm getting their act together. We'll have to wait and see if they can 1) keep the development community engaged and enthused, 2) market the hell out of the Pre and webOS, and 3) not be afraid to spend bundles of cash to compete with Apple.
  • RE: CES 2008 Keynote: Bill Gates, the final CES address [Gadgetell]

  • RE: HTC to buy Palm? [Gadgetell]
Ah yes, it was actually a design firm. Thanks for the update John.
  • RE: Adobe has decided to not exhibit at the Macworld 2009 Expo and Conference in January [Appletell]
It's very funny how Mac users hate the new CS4 interface, but I love the new CS4 interface on the PC. 1 step forward, 1 step back.
  • RE: Can a Hail Mary save Palm? Warning issued [Gadgetell]
One thing to add to the list of things they must do for their "new OS" to survive is to create a native App Store that is accessible from both the user's computer AND the device itself. This will help them for several reasons. 1) App Stores generate money. Apple has picked up some serious loot on their App Store alone. We all know Palm could use another revenue source. Having a bunch of cheapo websites handle all of their Apps is horrible, and is a job that Palm should handle themselves. 2) Having a "business phone" is no longer a model. There needs to be a way to captivate every type of audience. It needs to be a phone that excites people as well. The Centro excited teeny boppers, but that's it. The ideal phone would be sophisticated, fun, pretty, shiny, and a pleasure to use. People are still buzzing in industry trying to get their companies to let them use an iPhone. You know why? Because it's friggin' cool! That's my 2 cents.

Hi Sushruta - Looking forward to interacting with you on the site!
  • RE: Best Buy's Black Friday ad leaked [Gadgetell]
Looks like the 798 price is accurate: http://www.gadgetell.com/tech/comment/wal-mart-leaks-out-full-black-friday-deals/?staticsource=blackfriday2008
  • RE: HTC to buy Palm? [Gadgetell]
Fair points Mr. Mason. Would be interesting to see what MOTO has in store for us with Android. They're sure taking long enough to hash it out. All HTC needs to pick up right now is a strong brand (a la Palm, Motorola, etc). It seems like they've got all of the other components of a successful CE company covered.
  • RE: HTC to buy Palm? [Gadgetell]
    Palm? What about MOTO?
  • RE: Do you Hulu yet? Here are ten shows that make it worth it. [Gadgetell]
My Monday nights are so full that I have three shows to record simultaneously. I therefore have to watch Heroes on Hulu every week. Good stuff.
  • RE: Apple’s October MacBook event live blog at Appletell [Appletell]
Apparently Leo and TWiT were supposed to have a live video stream, but aren't anymore. Text is the best we've got.
  • RE: Motorola intros new in-vehicle mobile computer [Gadgetell]
This thing looks like a computer version of one of those "Zack Morris" phones back in the day on Saved by the Bell.
  • RE: Microsoft's latest ad: 'I'm a PC, and I've been made into a stereotype' [Gadgetell]
Scott - Well, I guess the real question is... -- Where does Apple get off associating all non-Apple computers with Windows? I mean... an Apple computer is actually an Apple PC. -- Remember -- most - if not all of the "I'm a Mac" commercials feature John Hodgeman as a Windows PC, so I suppose Microsoft is just going along with the title.
  • RE: Microsoft's latest ad: 'I'm a PC, and I've been made into a stereotype' [Gadgetell]
I love the commercial idea, Mr. Graves! It's tough for them to tout differences between the OSs, since lets be honest, there aren't many nowadays. The companies have very similar products, so marketing is all they've got right now until someone does something absolutely revolutionary (Windows 7? Mac OS XI?). I understand that Apple touts little differences in their commercials, but that's because they're trying to steal market share from the majority, Microsoft. As you mentioned, it's all about keeping yourself looking good, while making the other guy look bad... which as I mentioned, is tough to do in this playing field. I think Apple's succeeded in recent years because -- lets be honest -- people feel that Microsoft is evil. Maybe... just maybe... this ad campaign is on its way to making people more comfortable with Microsoft as a company. We'll have to wait and see...
  • RE: Another Microsoft Seinfeld ad about nothing, but at least this one's funnier [Gadgetell]
I respectfully disagree, Michael. I think what they're doing here is interesting. They don't need to talk about their products because they're instilling it in people's minds that Microsoft a) connects people, b) is working on things we can't even dream of yet, and c) feels they have lost touch with their customers needs, so they're using Jerry and Bill as symbols of reconnecting with their customers. Also, if it makes you laugh and chat about the campaign with your friends, then it's a successful campaign. I'm excited to see "episode" 3.
  • RE: Google to release new browser [Appletell]
I bet we all could've predicted this was coming! Makes me kind of nervous to have Google watch my Googling, my email, and my surfing habits. I suppose if they're out to "index the world's information", the best way is to just control all of it..
  • RE: Here's hoping the September event fixes everything. [Appletell]
One thing that I can think of you didn't mention is the 3G call drops. I've had way too many calls dropped to count...
  • RE: iPhone firmware 2.0.2 is out! [Appletell]
I upgraded to 2.0.2 yesterday and have seen a couple noticable changes... My contacts list no longer takes forever to load, and when I'm scrolling through it, it isn't jumpy anymore. Anyone else seeing these chanes the the contacts list?
  • RE: Is copy and paste really necessary on the iPhone? [Appletell]
When I had my Treo, copy paste was a very heavily used feature. Now with the iPhone, I can't even copy a URL to send it to someone. I agree that they could add some functionality to avoid needing copy/paste all-together, but until they do that, I WANT MY COPY/PASTE BACK!
  • RE: Peguins fight back in Defendin' De Penguin for Wii, DS [Gamertell]
Yeah I'm going to have to agree with you. Dat's awesome.
  • RE: Live Blog: Sony's E3 2008 press conference [Gamertell]
Do you think we can expect Sony to announce their rival product to WiiFit called PS3Fit?
  • RE: Live Blog: Nintendo's E3 2008 press conference [Gamertell]
Standby folks -- we'll get started momentarily!
  • RE: Time for Gadgetell's "Who's on crack" this week [Gadgetell]
Sprint should've 1-upped Apple and offered the Instinct for $199 WITHOUT a contract. -D
  • RE: Sprint's Samsung Instinct, priced at $199.99 [Gadgetell]
Hey Ian - Arnold's article above is not intended to be a review. It is merely a news item announcing the price for the Instinct, along with a bit of opinion. Don't pick on the article... pick on the product. -Doug
  • RE: Sprint's Samsung Instinct, priced at $199.99 [Gadgetell]
I've got an Instinct on the way (whenever Sprint PR gets around to sending them out) -- so I'll let you all know how it goes in a review. I just can't imagine it being as slick as the iPhone + iTunes combo -- but I'm willing to be proven wrong. Any Apple fanboys want to come in here and bash it?
  • RE: Sprint's Samsung Instinct, priced at $199.99 [Gadgetell]
While the Instinct looks great and all -- in my mind it's on a whole different playing field than the iPhone. The iPhone is a platform, not just a device. Sprint / Samsung's Instinct is JUST a device. I personally think if Samsung decided it wanted to compete with the iPhone, they would need a slick device, a music / video download store, an app store, and allow you to access all of it from the phone as well. I'll just keep dreaming that someone ACTUALLY tries to compete with the iPhone -- wake me up when it happens.
  • RE: Google puts Gmail back in the lab [Gadgetell]
I sure hope they add this to Gmail for your domain!
  • RE: Notable iPhone Apps: Push Notification System (part 2 of 7) [Appletell]
I personally think this is the most revolutionary one of their announcements today... and I'm very blown away at their willingness to make this notification server available to developers. I wonder if this leaves any security holes that will allow people to spam you...
