Micro Center’s Black Friday 2008 weekend sales

Tech and computer retail store Micro Center has a whole bunch of stuff on sale starting Black Friday (November 27, 2008) through the whole weekend. It begins at 8 a.m. on Friday and ends 6 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008.

Sale items include Acer PCs for $299, 22 in. flat screen monitors for $199, 1GB MP3 player for $0.99, a min tripod for $0.99, cameras,  computers, printers,,  RAM, video recorders, hard drives and more. Some deals may also be availabel on the web site, though not likely the one-day in-store sale items.

I’ll stick to the game deals for now:

Swedish teen suffers seizure after 24-hour World of Warcraft: Lich King marathon

lich kingWorld of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has been out for less than a week and it seems the expansion has already claimed its first official casualty.

Right off the heels of a European gamer reaching level 80 in Wrath of the Lich King in 27 hours, Kotaku reports that a 15-year-old boy from Sweden suffered an epileptic seizure after playing Wrath of the Lich King for 24 hours straight.

New DirecTV subscribers get to watch BlizzCon 2008 tourney for free

BlizzCon pay per view package to rock DirecTVBlizzCon 2008 is offering a free pay-per-view package to new DirecTV subscribers for its upcoming World of Warcraft tournament starting at 1:30 p.m. on October 10, 2008, and 2 p.m. EST on October 11, 2008, broadcasting live from the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA (USA).

The DirecTV special promotion can be subscribed to only through the BlizzCon website and is available only to those living in the United States that subscribe to service before September 30, 2008, and activate it before October 9, 2008.

A new way to run through World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft RL Treadmill Race Across Azeroth
The primary means of travel in World of Warcraft is running. You run pretty much everywhere, and some fans became curious as to what it would be like to physically experience that same amount of running in real life. The result was Aaron and Elijah’s RL Race Across Azeroth.

These guys even worked out the how the running in WoW would correspond to running in the real world. They built a treadmill which would work with WoW, set it up so they would run at six mph and prepared to run from the gates of Shadowglen to the sentries of Darnassus. They also dressed up like their characters - for scientific purposes of course.

One million Chinese gamers simultaneously logged in to World of Warcraft
