Gamertell Review: Peak’s Starpex guitar controller for PS3, PS2

by PJ Hruschak on Nov 12, 2008 at 04:39 PM

gamertell peak starpex ps2 ps3 full size wood guitar controller

Product: Peak’s Starpex wireless guitar controller
Systems: PS2, PS3
Price: $189.99
Rating: Two thumbs up; 98/100; A; * * * * 1/2 out of five.
Pros: Feels great, works perfectly and looks amazing. Easy to connect and great action on the buttons.
Cons: A little pricey and could use a better neck strap.
Overall: The perfect gift for a Guitar Hero or Rock Band fanatic. If you want to feel even more like a real virtual video game rock star, this is the guitar controller to own.

Screw those mamby pamby plastic guitar controllers with wood grain stickers. Those are for wimps and wussies.

Peak has released the first full size, wood body guitar game controller. It’s essentially a real electric guitar (ever touch one of those?) with the electric components swapped for plastic controller parts.

It looks great, feels great and plays great, making it one truly ass-kicking game controller…

by PJ Hruschak on Aug 29, 2008 at 02:08 PM

gamertell belkin n1 vision wireless router box

Product: Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router
Price: $149.95
Rating: Two thumbs up; 95/100; A; ****1/2 out of five.
Pros: Super easy to install, fast download speeds, easy-to-use on-board mini screen and nice security features.
Cons: A little tall for some users’ setup.
Overall: A great investment for anyone who wants maximum wireless performance and gets frustrated checking connections through a web-based interface. A great buy.

As with so many things, your internet connection is only as fast as your slowest connection. It’s ye olde “only as strong as your weakest link” for the internet age yet the adage still rings dern true.

Enter Belkin’s N1 Vision wireless router…

Logitech’s Speed Force Wireless racing wheel for Wii

by Jodie Andrefski on Aug 26, 2008 at 07:27 AM

speedforcewheelSpeed Force Wireless that is. Hitting stores November 2008, just in time for both the holiday season and the launch of Need for Speed Undercover, is the new Logitech wireless racing wheel. Before this, Wii users were pretty much stuck using the Wii Wheel or Brando’s multi-axis racing system . At least now there is a third option on the table for racing fans.

Logitech teamed up with EA to support force-feedback in their upcoming Need for Speed racing game for the Wii which will run you about $100 if you…

Gamertell Exclusive: Peak Products producing Starpex, full-size guitar controller for PS3, PS2

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 15, 2008 at 03:58 PM

gamertell peak products wood guitar controller ps2 ps3I swear to Jimi Hendrix, this was my initial reaction when a Peak Products rep told me they are producing the first ever full-size, all wood guitar game controller:

1. About friggin’ time!
2. Won’t that be heavy?
3. Well, duh, real guitarists hold those things for hours at a time. And that’s what a guitar strap is for.“

Here was the email response I received from a rep at Max Borges Agency, the PR company representing Peak:

1. Seriously.
2 [and 3]. Not that heavy at all.  Lighter than a real guitar of the same size. Held one when they demoed it at our office

Dubbed the Starpex, the controller will be compatible with both the PS2 and PS3, can be used to play both Guitar Hero or Rock Band and can be used as a wired or wireless controller.

The exact release date…

Visteon’s dockable multimedia player, GBA system still kickin’

by PJ Hruschak on Jun 14, 2008 at 10:36 AM

gamertell visteon dockable entertainment system game boy advance pamphlet coverMy wife was getting an oil change the other day and my baby gamer wandered into the dealership’s Videogame Room. Kudos to them for providing such a room. Sadly, it only has a slimline PS2 and four games (I think I saw Madden NFL 2002 in there).

But, there was a countertop pamphlet display with good ‘ol Mario on it. The pamphlets are for Visteon’s “Dockable Entertainment featuring Game Boy Advance.“ It’s essentially a portable DVD player intended for your car with a GBA built right in…

Gamertell Review: Sony Dualshock 3 wireless controller

by PJ Hruschak on Apr 10, 2008 at 04:49 PM

sony dualshock 3 controller

Product: Sony Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller for the Playstation 3 (aka Dualshock 3, Dualshock 3 Sixaxis)
Price: $54.99
Rating: Two thumbs up; 90/100; A-; **** out of 5
Pros: Looks, feels and moves just like the previous PS3 wireless controller.
Cons: No USB cable. Slightly heavier than previous controller. Slight smell of burning plastic either shows signs of newness or faulty design.
Overall: Works well, feels great and definitely worth it for those who need that little extra sensory feedback when they play.

Finally admitting something as small and seemingly silly as game controller wobbling is important to gamers, Sony has released the Dualshock 3 wireless controller for the PS3.

The controller looks, feels and operates exactly the same as the PS3 Sixaxis controller, which is also pretty damn close to the Dualshock 2 PS2 controller (without the cable, of course).
