Get Half-Life for 98 cents

No, this isn’t a typo - Half-Life is actually going for .98 on Steam, in honor of the game’s 10th anniversary (1998, get it?). You can find the best damned value in videogames (possibly ever) on Steam right now, or if you want another fantastic deal, check out the “Valve Complete Pack” - which has just about everything from oldies like Counter-Strike to brand new titles like Left 4 Dead - for $99.
Seriously, you can’t beat either of these deals. Half-Life alone, at less than a dollar, is probably the best game you’ll ever pay less than a Washington for. Go download it this instant if you’ve never played (or don’t already have it on your machine). Digital distribution is a beautiful thing, people. Come to think of it, so are most of Valve’s games.

Valve Complete Pack now available on Steam
As many zombie hunters know by now, Left 4 Dead is coming out on November 18, 2008. It’s made by Valve who has an impressive resume stemming back to the days of the original Half-Life and Counter-Strike.
If you may have missed out on the classics or every Valve game in general, now’s your chance to make up for it. Valve is offering every single game the company has ever made in one $99 package only on Steam. Now we know that $99 seems a little pricey on the surface especially in these tight times we live in but this is still a deal.
It’s worth noting that…
No Left 4 Dead for you, PS3

Valve seems to have a love-hate relationship with the PS3. On second thought it seems more like a hate relationship.
EA took the responsibility of developing The Orange Box for PS3 in place of Valve which was clearly inferior to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Valve’s most recent endeavor, Left 4 Dead, is shaping up to be one of the must-play titles of this year with an emphasis on zombie slaying. We know the game is coming to Xbox 360 and PC but a PS3 port has been up in the air since the beginning. Now that dream has been shattered into shards of a broken dream courtesy of Valve’s own Chet Faliszek…
Valve’s new Steam Cloud service is go
On November 6, 2008, Valve’s Steam Cloud service launched with the Left 4 Dead demo (full game releases November 18, 2008). Left 4 Dead is the first game that will utilize Steam Cloud support while Valve has plans to patch older titles to use the player syncing service. Valve also plans to release the code to developers for free. What nice guys they are!
The service will work with Steam, retail, and other outlets including Good Old Games.
Steam Cloud allows players to store individual settings for PC games server-side, enabling them to log in from any computer (assuming the computer already has the Steam client already installed) and play with…
Portal: Still Alive overflows Xbox Live’s size limit

Microsoft’s official limit for games on Xbox Live Arcade: 350MB. Portal: Still Alive’s actual size: 629MB. The limit breaking (ha!) comes from a report via Joystiq where, as they point out, “the previously announced 350 MB limit has just been kicked in the teeth.“
As of yet, there is no word from Microsoft whether or not the size cap limit will be raised yet again, as it was when Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was placed on the service, or even whether or not there will be a new and bigger…
Team Fortress 2 updates to be released in 2009

When Valve released the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) Gold Rush update (which included unlockable weapons and achievements for the Medic class in addition to the Payload gameplay style) in April 2008, the company also confirmed that the game’s remaining eight classes will be overhauled in the future.
Since then, the Pyro and Heavy classes have been updated with new weapons and achievements but the remaining six classes (Scout, Engineer, Demoman, Sniper, Soldier and Spy) remain untouched. Valve’s vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi recently spoke with ShackNews about when fans can expect…
Valve hints at Half-Life 2: Episode Three’s release date

Valve is renowned for its long development times — something its supporters have generally come to accept as a fair concession for consistently high quality titles — but that didn’t stop the company’s vice president of marketing, Doug Lombardi, from dropping some hints about when we might finally see the conclusion to Gordon Freeman’s epic tale.
Speaking in an interview with Kikizo, Lombardi revealed that the “next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between…
Valve’s Left 4 Dead due to be released November 2008
![]()
As you can see from this photo I took from PAX, someone has given Left 4 Dead, a new game from Valve, the finger. Or, more accurately, the thumb.
Left 4 Dead takes place during that time that we all know is coming, when zombies walk the Earth. What makes the game different from other zombie invasion games is that this isn’t a first-person shooter game where you go through the same environments every time you play, with the inevitable goal to “beat” the game…
Valve clarifies Xbox Live’s Portal expansion

Reports last month of additional content to paradigm-busting, platitude-eliciting puzzler Portal were heart-stopping revelations for die-hards Valve fans.
But, according to GameSetWatch, Valve’s Doug Lombardi said the new levels for Portal will be culled from the Portal: The Flash Game map pack. While there’s still plenty of reasons for console players to be happy, there are now a few to get riled up about, too…
Let GLaGPS tell you where to go
Portal fans may remember that GLaDOS dictated directions to the player at all times. GLaDOS was, of course, evil and misleading, but the haunting voice was somewhat mesmerizing. You can now have GLaDOS order you around in your daily life as well, thanks to the GLaGPS created by Ryan VanMiddlesworth. Where GLaDOS stands for Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System, GLaGPS stands for Genetic Lifeform and Global Positioning System.
GLaGPS is a fan project, and not endorsed by Valve, the makers of Portal, but I’m sure they’d find it pretty darn cool. The voice pack only works with the Garmin Nuvi GPS so far, though VanMiddlesworth is also working on a TomTom version.
