Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway takes characters to the next level

by Mark Rollins on Aug 5, 2008 at 10:38 AM

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

Videogame characters are starting to become as lovable and relate-able as characters from movies and television. Ubisoft, for example, is taking it to the next level with the upcoming squad-based first-person shooter, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, as the latest video below demonstrates (video contains some adult language).

The video shows how much the creators got into the characters of the game, even basing them on real soldiers. Although the names have been changed, they went into great detail with subtle personality characterizations of these men.  For example, one of them has named his bazooka Stella and treats it like…

Gamertell Review: My Weight Loss Coach for DS

by Kirk Hiner on Aug 3, 2008 at 04:17 PM

My Weight Loss Coach

Title: My Weight Loss Coach
Price: $39.99
System: DS
Publisher (Developer): Ubisoft (Ubisoft Montreal)
ESRB Rating: Everyone (use of alcohol and tobacco)
Pros: Friendly and encouraging, offers good advice, decent variety of activities and challenges
Cons: Pedometer is basically useless, doesn’t accept diet details, more about weight management than actual weight loss
Overall Score: Two thumbs sideways, 72/100, C-, 2 out of 5

My Weight Loss Coach from Ubisoft is not a weight loss coach, it’s a weight management coach. It’s a good habits coach.

It does a decent job of reminding you of the exercise and nutrition lessons you were taught back in school and it challenges to actually put the lessons into effect. But if you buy this game hoping it’ll help you quickly shed 10 pounds, you’re going to be sorely disappointed.

by Lucy Newman on Jul 23, 2008 at 04:03 PM

E3 given a thumbs down by top exhibitorsNot many attendees were impressed with this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). During an interview held Thursday, (July 17, 2008) Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s senior managing director and general manager of entertainment analysis and the development division, told MSNBC that even though many fans of long running Nintendo franchise games such as Mario, Zelda or even StarFox were upset he felt that E3 was no longer a place for those types of game.

First Ubisoft brought us Imagine, now it brings Ener-G

by Jenni Lada on Jul 16, 2008 at 02:48 PM

Ener-G Dance Squad screenshot screenUbisoft has realized what an ignored segment teenage girl gamers are, and they are ready to fill that game void. They started with the Imagine line of games, which were essentially a series of simulation games. Now they have created Ener-G, a line of sports games for girls. So far three games in the line, all DS titles, have been announced, Ener-G Dance Squad, Ener-G Gym Rockets and Ener-G Horse Riders. All three will be released October 2008.

Ener-G Dance Squad makes players choreographers. They are placed in Laura’s shoes, a girl who is part of a modern dance squad. Players then perform alone or with a group, in a Story or Challenge Mode, dance against 12 other computer players and get items to dress up in. The music in the game will fall into the R&B, Techno, Disco, Pop, Classical and Tribal genres.

Recap of Ubisoft’s E3 2008 press conference

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 15, 2008 at 08:29 PM

gamertell ubisoft logoUbisoft tried to fill the E3 bases today, batting third in the press conference (2:30 p.m. PT, July 15, 2008) batting order following Nintendo and Sony.

The company trie dto play it a bit more gamer-y, having Ubisoff America’s President, Laurent Detoc, sitting on the stage and playing with his, er, I mean, a Wii. In addition to a couple big action games including Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia and I Am Alive, most of the games seem a bit more geared toward girl gamers, including a new “Ener-G” line.

Here’s a quick recap gathered from a few of the Live Blogs in the interwebisphere…

More “Imagine” games from Ubisoft on the way

by Jenni Lada on Jun 30, 2008 at 02:19 PM

The Ubisoft Imagine logoThose Imagine DS games must be doing really well. Ubisoft has announced that it is working on two new games that will become part of that series, Imagine Modern Dancer and Imagine Baby Club. Both games should be finished and in stores, ready for little girl’s DS units, by Fall 2008.

Imagine Modern Dancer was developed by Lexis Numérique and allows girls to become, well, modern dancers. In the Adventure Mode, players can learn 38 dances set to R&B, pop or techno and compete against 12 other in-game dancers.

DS owners can play Prince of Persia: The Fallen King

by Jenni Lada on Jun 30, 2008 at 11:27 AM

a screen shot from Prince of Persia The Fallen King DSI thought video game developers were moving away from DS games that look like they belong on the GBC or GBA. Ubisoft’s upcoming Prince of Persia: The Fallen King proves me wrong. So while next-gen console and PC owners will be getting a polished Prince of Persia installment, DS owners will be getting this (look at the screen shot to the right).

So in Prince of Persia: The Fallen King, the Prince is in trouble and decides that an abandoned, old, deserted kingdom would surely be safe. Except the Corruption, this inky black stuff that is infecting and changing everything, is already there. While searching the abandoned, old, deserted kingdom, the Prince encounters the Magus, a creature that is only half Corrupted, and decides to find a way to stop the Corruption with its help.

Nintendo DS the next alternative to smoking

by Lucy Newman on Jun 22, 2008 at 03:31 PM

Nintedo DS an alternative to smokingWe all have bad habits we’re trying to free ourselves from. Whether its drinking, speeding, or in my case caffeine and chocolate. One of the more popular vices everyone would like to see vanish is smoking. Yep, down with the nicotine sticks, no more dancing with cancer these days. But if you have friends who smoke like I do, asking them to stop will result in their telling you to ‘butt’ out or blow that defiant puff in your face.

It’s a habit that people find difficult to shake, especially if they’ve been smoking for quite a long time, rendering the nicotine patches, gums and carrot sticks useless. But in Canada, members of the Allen Carr Team - founded by anti-smoking guru Allen Carr - found a way to help smokers break their habit with the help of a Nintendo DS.
