Time’s top ten games of 2007
Time has just posted their top ten list of games that came out in 2007 – and absolutely none of them will surprise anyone. Halo 3 is at the top, followed by The Orange Box and Rock Band, with appearances with Super Mario Galaxy, Bioshock (the Spike awards #1 game), Call of Duty 4, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Mass Effect, Ace Combat 6, and God of War 2.
It’s a solid list, albeit utterly unsurprising. So Instead of pontificating on what a fantastic year 2007 was for gaming (which it clearly was) I’ll instead remark how interesting it is that the majority of these titles are sequels (in the case of Rock Band, we’ll call it a spiritual successor). Bioshock, Portal (The Orange Box) and Mass Effect are the only original properties on the list, though innovation is well represented across the board (case in point, Mario Galaxy and Rock Band certainly broke very new ground in their respective genres).
