Amazon’s Thanksgiving weekend, Cyber Monday 2008 game deals
By now we’ve licked our wounds and recovered from the madness that’s known as Black Friday. Even though waiting in long lines in blustery cold weather is over, deals on games are still running strong.
Amazon still has some pretty amazing deals that will last until Monday (December 1, 2008). For example, how would you like to own Far Cry 2 for $17.95 or Infinite Undiscovery for $18.95? Say what you will about some reviews but these games are certainly worth one Andrew Jackson. There are steals like these spread out across all consoles and this list will cover some of the most notable. Most of these games are eligible for free shipping if your total purchase exceeds $25. These bargains won’t be around for much longer so get to it…
Thanksgiving weekend - a time to game
For me (and I think, a majority of gamers) Thanksgiving weekend is prime gaming time. Think about it - lots of folks have the long weekend, and aside from Black Friday shopping and maybe a round of football in the yard, there’s no real reason to go outside for four days. Plus - the Wii was tailor-made for these family events, so busting out the party games is an awesome, socially acceptable way to get some game time in. That is… unless you have an addict in your midst.

Playstation Store Update: Black Friday and Thanksgiving 2008 edition

With the Thanksgiving holiday rapidly approaching, Sony has decided to gift gamers early with enough games and content worthy of a feast. Digitally speaking, that is.
The main course in this update feast is the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix, which will set players back $15. This game has already been received favorably from sites such as 1UP and IGN and will definitely please any Street Fighter fan.
For gamers who choose to exercise their minds rather than their muscles, Brain Challenge will also be available for purchase. For $10, players can see just how strong their minds are in comparison to the competition.
For players who want to sample some older Playstation Store content, Echochrome, The Last Guy, PixelJunk Eden, Novastrike and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 will be on sale for…

Giving Thanks: Top ten things this gamer’s thankful for in 2008
Halloween just passed us by without a hitch, handed out treats to the goblins and fairies and the occasional witch. But soon Thanksgiving day will be here. So while my other stories are forming and interviews are completed I wondered what I could possibly be thank for this year aside from the usual family, friends and fine wines and elegant turkey dinners.
So what do I have to be thankful for this year? Well here goes, and remember this is just my opinion and do feel free to add what you’re thankful for in the comments below as we celebrate them together.
- That Uwe Boll has NOT made a movie about my current favorite video game.
- That my friend (and founder of Gamers Outreach Foundation) Zachary Wigal has finally lived his dream. ...
Prep for Thanksgiving with Turkey Shoot
Thanksgiving is coming, but it never seems to receive the same build-up as Halloween, Christmas or even Black Friday. It turns out though, that UK based graphic designer Southbank wants to try and get people a little excited for the eating extravaganza with a quick, free-to-play Flash game called Turkey Shoot. The name is fairly telling - you try to shoot turkeys. Its technically labeled by Southbank as a “Christmas” game, but with turkeys being the Thanksgiving “mascot,“ it can go either way.
Its charming though, despite its simplicity. Once you decide to start a game, you are taken to the Sherry Meter. Here, you can set your “difficult” by dictating how many sherrys you have had (the gauge starts at 1 and can go to 10). After that you arrive at a quaint village scene, with strange cartoon turkeys flying at you. You have to shoot as many as you can before three turkeys reach you. The goal is to get the highest score possible…
Microsoft’s Black Friday claims cause contention
Sony isn’t happy about Microsoft’s claims that the Xbox 360 outsold Sony’s PS3 two to one during the last week’s Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales rush. On Thursday November 29, 2007, Microsoft Corp reported that it had sold some 310,000 units during the Thanksgiving weekend. Nintendo’s Wii sold some 350,000 units, plus another 653,000 Nintendo DS handhelds, and came in as the clear winner. Sony, which normally doesn’t disclose their sales figures until the end of the month, argued that Microsoft’s claims were false. Microsoft, on the other hand, has stood by their claims, adding to the fire of the bitter console wars.
Regardless of either side’s claims, the combined figures from the three console giants have only strengthened the game industries dominance around the world. To date, Nintendo has reported that since the launch of the Wii, some 13.2 million consoles have been sold, with Xbox 360’s own numbers at 13.4 million and Sony’s PS3 considerably lower with 5.6 million units sold since its release November of 2006.
