Fond memories of Fatal Frame
I am a coward.
At sleepovers in my childhood, I’d close my eyes during particularly scary portions of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, I’m 25 years old and still can’t listen to Reagan’s “possessed” voice in The Exorcist and I only was able to watch about a half hour of the remake of The Omen. For a brief time after watching all of The Exorcism of Emily Rose, I would make a conscious decision to be in bed and asleep by 3am.
But I’d like to think I’m getting better, and its all because of Fatal Frame.
It all started around Halloween in 2002. I was in college, and taking a night Japanese class with my friends Shawna and Vivienne (not their real names). Often, when class would get out, we’d feel like actually doing something, rather than going home, studying and getting to bed. You know - productive stuff.
Shawna was, and still is, a horror game fan - and good at it too. She suggested we rent Fatal Frame from Blockbuster and return to Vivienne’s nearby home for a game-a-thon. Vivienne and I had never heard of the game, but Shawna made it sound interesting, so we instantly agreed. We figured it may help us get in the spirit of the season…

Tecmo’s Holiday 2008 game lineup
Even though Tecmo’s in somewhat dire straits, and may even become part of the Square Enix family, it still isn’t hesitating when it comes to games. The company has just issued a press release announcing its upcoming titles for the 2008 holiday season. It doesn’t have that many coming out, only four, but hopefully those four DS and Wii titles will do well this season.
The four upcoming games are as follows…
Repricing of select Greatest Hits PS3 games starts this week
At E3 2008 Jack Trenton announced a line up of Playstation 3 titles that would be getting special treatment and goes into effect this week (July 28, 2008). Select titles have been relaunched at lower price points across the United States with nine titles now costing $29.99 each.
Most of these games are actually very good and well worth their price. Warhawk is even supposed to get trophy support in the future. In case you forget which games have been discounted, Sony has placed them in distinctly colored cases. They have red borders around them so they stand out really well.

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword strikes in Spring

Tecmo has just announced that Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword will be released on March 20, 2008. The new DS game, which is the latest entry in the Ninja Gaiden series, will feature gameplay which will center around the touch screen. Tecmo also announced that DS Download Stations, which are available in most major retailers, will feature a Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword demo.
In a potentially risky move by Tecmo, all of Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword can be played using only the stylus. The DS is held like a book, with a map on one screen and all the action occurring on the touch screen. By dragging, tapping, tracing and scribbling on the screen, Ryu Hayabusa will move around his environments and attack enemies.
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword looks very promising. The DS needs a good ninja game, seeing as how the Tenchu game for the system floundered.

Japanese Import: Dead or Alive photo book featuring Kasumi
Our favorite Japanese import site, J-List (J-Box), has a chemical-free solution to Viagra. For only $22, you can order a book filled with images of Kasumi from the Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball videogame released in 2003 for the Xbox. Wagga wagga.
Here’s the description from J-List (J-Box):
This is a thick all-color softcover game book for fans of one of the most popular characters throughout the DOAX series, the female ninja Kasumi. Featured inside are classic and modern CG art of the deadly assasin, decked out in both her trademark uniform, sexy bikinis, and even hip modern clothing to fit the occasion. Great sexy full page CG art and posters make this the only way to enjoy this game world to its fullest.“
Having seen a few of the art books from Japan, the quality is very high, colors are brilliant and the paper is think (they know their boys can be rough on magazines).
