Further demonstrating the increasing availability and decreasing price of memory, Target has put out a Speed Racer themed gift card that features a USB 2.0 Flash drive built right in.

The plastic promo gift card features a tiny USB cable (an inch long) that clicks flat into the card and can be ejected using a tiny mechanical switch at the bottom edge. It also has an activity light on the upper right edge of the card.

The internal Flash drive shows 62.8 MB total capacity with 51.6 MB of it filled with Speed Racer movie promotion items including a cheat code for the Wii version of the upcoming Speed Racer videogame…

For those of you who read our other Dabbledoo site, Gadgetell, you might recall my long-ago post about Target’s videogame gift cards. It seems the coolness factor of gaming hasn’t been lost on Target, which continues to release game-related cards all year ‘round.

Target’s PS2 Guitar Hero 3 bundle

by Danielle Riendeau on Oct 21, 2007 at 11:47 PM

GH3 on PS2Good news for PS2-playing Guitar Hero fans – Target, Activision, and RedOctane have teamed up to create an exclusive bundle for the PS2 version of Guitar Hero 3. Available only at Target, the bundle includes a copy of GH3, two specially designed guitar controllers, and a “customization kit” with stickers and guitar straps. The package will be released on the game’s official launch day (October 28, 2007), and will retail for $109.99.

Still not sold on the merits of Guitar Hero 3? Check out some details from the press release:

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will include explosive new content and features including a multiplayer action-inspired battle mode, grueling boss battles, a host of exclusive unlockable content and visually stunning rock venues. The third installment of the franchise is the biggest yet, including songs from such artists as Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, The Killers, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, The Who and KISS.”

So why is the bundle only available for the PS2? After all, the title is also going to hit the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. Some have speculated it has to do with the fact that the PS2 version won’t be sold online like the others.

It’s going to be fun to see who wins the virtual battle of the bands this holiday season: GH 3 or Rock Band. Both titles are shaping up quite nicely, so it’s safe to assume that whichever title you pick, you’ll be able to rock out admirably this fall.

Transformers gift card more than meets your wallet

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 15, 2007 at 10:23 AM

Gamertell Target Transformers Optimus Prime Gift Card If you thought the Xbox and Wii Target gift cards were cool around Christmas (2006), then you’ll really dig the new Transformers gift cards. Obviously a cooperative marketing effort, the gift card transforms to create Optimus Prime.

A small transformers logo in the card’s center (on the front) is a button that pops out Optimus’ head. The arms and legs can be manually pulled from the sides, extending a bit longer with hands that swivel sideways and feat that swivel out so he can stand. Once fully extended, he’ll stand about 5 1.2 in. tall which is pretty big considering it started at 2 3/8 in wide and 4 in. tall.

The funniest part of the packaging, it actually says, “Giftcard In Disguise” and points to the folded Optimus card.
