Battlestar Galactica prequel announced

by Danielle Riendeau on Aug 8, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Battlestar Galactica cast
I have two words for this announcement: Frak yes! The SCI FI channel has just announced a two-hour prequel special for space drama Battlestar Galactica, to air after the final ten episodes in the series in 2009. The special will air on the channel, with a DVD release soon to follow, and it’s actually being directed by Edward James Olmos (and written by longtime BSG writer Jane Espenson).

The story is a prequel focused on Cylon #1 (Dean Stockwell), Resistance Leader Sam T. Anders and Chief Galen Tyrol; and is centered on the immediate aftermath of the Cylon attack that left the human race nearly decimated.

Meijer two-day sale on Wii games

by PJ Hruschak on Nov 27, 2007 at 04:00 PM

Gamertell Meijer Store Ad Black Friday might be over but the Holiday sales continue. I just received a print ad in the mail for a two-day Holiday sale at Meijer Stores. On the last page is a spot advertising, “Buy any Wii game priced $29.99 or less, get one of equal or lesser value FREE.”

The sale is taking place starting 6 a.m. November 28 until close on November 29, 2007, at all Meijer store locations in Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.

The ad shows eight titles and indicates more are available in the store. At least a couple of the games look to be worthwhile but they are all releases from earlier this year. Most new titles will be more expensive than the $29.99 cutoff.

The caveat, besides the sale dates, is that the offer is good, “While at least 100 last per store,” whatever the heck that means. The store is also not taking rainchecks or substitutions, so get there early.

Gamertell Meijer Site Shipping Ad The eight Wii games shown on the ad are: Spider-man 3 DragonballZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 Shrek the Third Redsteel Surf’s Up The Sims 2: Pets Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Meijer is also offering free shipping on all order of $100 or more from its web site with the promo code “freeship 100”. The Wii sale does not appear to be taking place online but the shipping deal will work for games and gear.

Alienware launches its holiday must-have site

by Lucy Newman on Nov 25, 2007 at 08:15 PM

Alienware holiday must havesAlienware has just launched its holiday promotion site featuring a few must-have gaming systems for Christmas.

First up is the Area 51-7500 starting at $1,399 or a low monthly payment of $42, the promotion is gearing to attract fans of Crysis offering free wallpaper downloads for the game. But overall just looking at the specs of the system is mind blowing with many possibilities of customization for gamers looking for a new system.

Customizing doesn’t end at deciding which of the four colors to choose from - metallic, green, blue and black, but even how the chassis glows to match your mood if you like with AlienFX and room within the chassis to expand when needed with extra slots, input and space to add hardware. The site promises that you can literally open the case with a pocket knife and won’t take rocket scientists to help you upgrade the system yourself.

Improved thermal design keeps the system cool and lighting mods strategically placed to light up I/O ports, optical drives and power buttons for those who prefer to game in the dark. Did I mention the cool design of the chassis?

With today’s PC games requiring more power and speed, the system up next on the holiday must have is the Area 51 m9750 notebook ($1,699) for the gamer on the go.

This is no ordinary notebook, the Area 51 m9750 takes gaming to the next level with the NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT high performance graphics processor, noted the world’s first DirectX 10 along with NVIDIA SLI technology and up to 1GB of graphics memory. With two processing cores powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor the notebook will enhance the functions of not only the games but system and multimedia applications as well.

Other options available include RAID 0 which will enable gamers to configure their hard drives for speed and maximized storage or RAID 1 which offers security and back up. The maximized storage space will allow the ability for a user to record television programming directly to the hard drive and take it with them on the road.

Huge UMD Movie sale at Gamestop/EB Games

by Jenni Lada on Nov 9, 2007 at 12:44 AM

The GameStop and EB Games logos.

GameStop and EB Games have a massive sale going on a large selection of UMD movies. There are 39 different movies which have had the price lowered the $4.99. These are all new movies, not used. To make things even better, the coupon code “SAVER” can be entered at the checkout to provide free value shipping. So if you order right now, you can have your new movies in five to ten days. Tax is still included on the games, so if you only buy one game, the price will be about $5.41.

The titles offered are a selection of that offers both classics and fairly new releases. The two best deals are Final Fantasy: Advent Children, which was originally $24.99 new, and the edition of Stealth that comes with a copy of the racing game Wipeout Pure. Other notable titles include Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Ghostbusters, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers, Kung Fu Hustle, The Dark Crystal, and The Fifth Element. Of course there are some really atrocious movies that aren’t even worth $5, like Man of the House, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, Christmas with the Kranks, and Daddy Day Care.

This sale could not have come at a better time. I recently got a PSP, and have been thinking I’d like to pick up a UMD movie or two for it. Of course I leapt at Final Fantasy: Advent Children. Too bad they didn’t have Mirrormask as well. This is such a great deal. The selection of cheap movies is so varied that anyone should be able to find at least one good game. The free value shipping only cinches the deal.
