The Killers to debut in Rock Band’s Music Store
While I am fully aware that Rock Band and Guitar Hero are each separate games, the music selections that each title offers make me wonder whether or not they should just cease the competition and join forces to release a singular musical instrument-based game.
Yesterday, Activision announced that The Killers would be releasing their musical wares onto Guitar Hero World Tour’s musical store as downloadable content on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Not content to be left out of this party, MTV made it known that Rock Band would be receiving music from this group as well, on the very same day.

We Cheer song list revealed

Ok, so there are games for cooking, having babies and losing weight - so its only natural that a cheer leading game should make its way to the Wii. Actually, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened sooner - at least cheer leading does have a real rhythm/competition aspect that lends itself to more traditional gameplay than say, teaching children. But I digress - Namco-Bandai has just released the full track list for its upcoming cheer leading game We Cheer, set to drop on the Wii on September 30, 2008.
The set list is none too shabby, featuring bouncy tracks from famous artists like KC & The Sunshine Band, Moby and C+C Music Factory. Good stuff, really, even if you’d never want your friends to see you hopping and bopping to it. The gameplay sounds like a mix of traditional rhythm/action style hijinks and choreography, with multiplayer modes and fully customizable cheerleaders for maximum perky fun.

Rock on with the Guitar Hero World Tour tracks

Activision has just announced the on-disc track listing for Guitar Hero World Tour for the PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. 86 songs will initially be available, and each song will be a master recording. No need to worry about bad covers, come October 26, 2008. So rockers should be sure to save up $189.99 so you can purchase the game with the full band kit when it comes out.
The official Guitar Hero World Tour songs listed in the press release are as follows…
Video games shifting toward music-focused media
Where TV killed the radio star, video games are helping to revive them. With the success of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, it is fairly interesting to look at the effect these games are having on the credibility of the gaming industry as an intrinsic part of the entertainment industry. An example of this the planned September 2008 re-emergence of the band Guns N’ Roses through releasing a new song in Rock Band 2, one prospectively from fabled and constantly delayed album Chinese Democracy that fans have been anticipating for more than a decade.
It has taken a while for the game industry to be…
Playstation Store Update for the week of March 27 to April 2, 2008
![]()
One thing that can be said about the latest Playstation Store update, it sure isn’t skinny. Of course, the bulk of it is Karaoke Revolution enough songs ‘to make you dizzy, but who’s keeping score?
For this meaty update we have the demo of R-Type Command along with more first-person shooter maps, and Boston-mania for the obligatory Rock Band update.
But here, check out the complete list for yourself…
Schedule of first wave of downloadable content for Rock Band
Harmonix and MTV Games have announced the first batch of downloadable content for their highly anticipated upcoming game Rock Band. Beginning on November 20, 2007 fans will be able to download song packs by Metallica, The Police and Queens of the Stone Age, each pack containing three songs.
Each pack has a suggested retail value of $5.49 or $1.99 per individual track (440 Microsoft Points for a pack or 160 per track for the Xbox 360). Additionally individual tracks from Foreigner, Wolfmother and The Runaways, among others, will be also available for $1.99 each (160 Microsoft Points).
Here are the packs and individual songs scheduled for release next week: Metallica Pack: “Ride the Lightning” “Blackened” “And Justice for All” The Police Pack: “Can’t Stand Losing You” “Synchronicity II” “Roxanne” Queens of the Stone Age Pack: “3’s and 7’s” “Little Sister” “Sick Sick Sick” Individual songs: asterisk denotes a cover song “Fortunate Son” - as made famous by Creedence Clearwater Revival * “Juke Box Hero” - as made famous by Foreigner * “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” - as made famous by T-Rex * “My Sharona” - as made famous by The Knack * “Cherry Bomb” - as made famous by The Runaways * Joker & The Thief - Wolfmother The developers have announced weekly updates with new packs and individual song coming every week. If they can maintain the game fresh with an updated playlist they will surely have a hit in their hands. I could go on playing Guitar Hero forever if they kept on coming up with new songs. Rock Band is slated for release on November 20, 2007 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii and on December 18, 2007 for the PS2.

Guitar Hero 3 downloadable tracks announced
Guitar Hero III was only just released, but already additional content for the game is available for Xbox 360 owners. On November 8, 2007, Activision announced the first downloadable track packs for Guitar Hero III. The first two packs, which are already available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, feature music from Velvet Revolver and the Foo Fighters. Each track pack costs about 500 points, which is a little more than $6 per pack.
The same track packs will also be made available to Playstation 3 owners with Guitar Hero III via the Playstation Store later in the month. Also available at the end of the month for both systems will be a Boss Battle anthem track pack. The Boss Battle track pack will be free to download and will unlock the boss battle songs, like “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” for regular play.
Each of the track packs that have been released feature three master recordings by the original artists. The Velvet Revolver pack contains “Messages”, “Slithter”, and “She Builds Quick Machines.” The Foo Fighters pack contains “All My Life,” “The Pretender” and “This is a Call”.
It is nice to see Activision being so proactive in acquiring additional music for Guitar Hero III owners, but perhaps they should have waited a bit. The game only did just come out. I doubt there was a need to already have six additional songs up for download and the track packs are so expensive. At most online music stores a single MP3 is 99 cents, and here three songs cost over $6. Maybe Foo Fighter or Velvet Revolver fans will be willing to pay, but I doubt regular people will.
