Homeland Security develops its own game

by Christian Morlotte on Aug 31, 2007 at 02:37 PM

DHSThe Department of Homeland Security is developing a game that lets players experience what it is like to be in charge of the response to a terrorist attack or a natural disaster. Ground Truth requires players to respond quickly and to make intelligent decisions to avoid casualties and damage and apparently the game is aimed at training personnel to respond in case of emergencies.

The computer scientist in charge of development, Donna Djordjevich, has said that they are aiming for high production values including next-gen graphics so that people are attracted to it and engaged. Although the game is not intended as a commercial product for the moment, so far $600k have been invested in development.

Gamertell Exlcusive: More screenshots of PT Boats: Knights of the Sea

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 16, 2007 at 08:26 PM

Gamertell PT Boats Knights of the Sea image

We’ve just received more information and six additional exclusive screenshots for the naval sim game, PT Boats: Knights of the Sea.

Russian game company, Akella, also sent a good chunk of info about this RTS/action game set during WWII. Most of the boats in the game are part of “mosquito fleets,“ meaning they are small, fast and will likely make for a pretty atypical sim game in terms of speed. Also, ou’ll be able to swap between sim and RTS modes and a free-roam camera so you cna check out the action everywhere at any angle.

“A gamer can take command of a boat and control each member of the crew – captain, gunner or commander. He can steer the wheel, shoot down aircrafts using machine guns or view the situation through binoculars. The player can take command of a group of vessels. While advancing in rank you’ll get more boats and warships under your command… game scenarios development rests on authentic battles and military operations while the built-in encyclopedia provides a thorough reference on personalities, events and technical aspects.“

Gamertell Ship Simulator 2008

The latest version of Ship Simulator for PC has shipped to stores in the UK and Scandinavia and is also available for download through Amazon and the game’s site. The boxed version should be on US shelves in September 2007.

The game lets you take the captain’s seat and steer ships of various speeds and sizes through real-world ports and waterways. You can also switch between overhead, captain’s seat and front-of-the-boat views to get good looks at the water and land as you pass by (or crash). The game also has decent ...

Gamertell Exclusive: PT Boats: Knights of the Sea screenshots

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 12, 2007 at 02:35 PM

Gamertell PT Boats Web Topper

Sure, you might be sick of WWII shooters by now but Akella has taken a different course with PT Boats: Knights of the Sea. Produced in cooperation with Nvdia, this game is a naval action simulator where you captain various water vessels in WWII-based sea battles.

The games three modes will allow gamers to play through as either a typical RTS game, a tactical action game or a naval sim, battling against planes, PT boats, destroyers and minesweepers (to name a few). The game will run on PCs with DirectX 9 or 10.

I received an email from Akella that gave the following description of the game, a hint as to its development along with several exclusive screenshots ...
