Japanese Import: World Destruction: Michibikareshi Ishi for DS
September 25, 2008, marks the beginning of the end as Sega’s newest Nintendo DS role-playing game, World Destruction: Michibikareshi Ishi (WD), invades store shelves everywhere in Japan.
World Destruction boasts designs contributed by key members of Square’s original Xenogears’ development team as well as former staff who worked on games including Grandia and Etrian Odyssey. Those who have played Xenogears may find…
Look who’s still making games for the PS2
While many gamers may have jumped ship to the comfort of the cell microprocessors that power the Playstation 3, the accrual of Playstation 2 titles have yet to come to a complete halt. The pickings may be slim but many developers, such as Atlus, continue to show faith in this 8-year-old console by releasing highly anticipated titles exclusively for the Playsation 2. Other developers, like Electronic Arts, show their support by continuing to develop Playstation 2 versions of popular multi-platform games.

Sega’s hands-on demos at PAX 2008
The Penny Arcade Expo is looking like The game conference of choice this year (along with Tokyo game show, of course). PAX 08’ is looking way hotter than E3 - think of how crazy that sentence would have been ten years ago. Sega is in on the show, with several titles available for hands-on play. The lineup, which we’ve previously reported, will include Bleach Dark Souls (DS), Dinosaur King (DS), Sonic Chronicles (DS), Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) and Yakuza 2 (PS2) will be on hand for attendees to try out.
Sega announces House of Dead: Overkill as Wii exclusive
Wii gamers who find themselves defending the system as a legitimate platform for hardcore gamers have been given some new ammunition (of course, they may want to save that ammunition for the zombies). Sega has announced The House of Dead: Overkill will be coming to the Wii early 2009. The game is being developed by Headstrong Games (formerly Kuju of Battalion Wars 1 and 2) and is being built from the ground up specifically for the Wii platform.
Using the Wii remote (as opposed to the light-gun approach of the The House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return port), the game will be presented in a pulp action-style design. This is made quite clear in the trailer which was instantly one of the best game trailers I have ever seen. Click through to check it out…
Non-News of the Day: Yu Suzuki did not leave sega
To everyone who was up in arms about the news that Sega’s Legendary Yu Suzuki (he of Shemnue, Outrun and Virtua Fighter fame) has not left the building. GameDaily posted an article that indicated Suzuki’s departure, stating evidence from an earlier Gamasutra interview with Sega’s Simon Jeffery. Later, they corrected it, noting that Jeffery was totally wrong, and Suzuki is still with Sega. In fact, he currently holds the position of “Creative Officer”.
I do find the entire affair rather funny. Firstly, Jeffery was totally misinformed about a gaming celebrity at his own corporation, and secondly because Suzuki himself must keep an insanely low profile (or not do all that much on the surface) for the mistake to even be made.

Sega’s PAX 2008 lineup
Sega’s going to be showing up at the Penny Arcade Expo 2008 (PAX) that’s happening the last weekend in August, and they decided to prepare attendees by revealing its game lineup for the event. DS, PS2 and PS3 owners will be happy with the company’s offerings, as Bleach Dark Souls, Dinosaur King, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Valkyria Chronicles and Yakuza 2 will be on display.
So really, Sega’s going to use the event to show off some solid RPGs. Dinosaur King is a Pokemon-esque game for the DS, where you find fossils and create dinosaurs, and battle others who do the same. Sonic Chronicles is the DS Sonic the Hedgehog RPG from BioWare. Valkyria Chronicles is a PS3 strategic RPG with water-color style graphics that is receiving quite a bit of buzz. The other two titles being displayed, both sequels, are something special too, though…

New Sonic and the Black Knight revealed, now with swords
This month’s issue of Nintendo Power cover story reveals that Sonic the Hedgehog is back. According to the magazines, Sonic and the Black Knight will be released exclusively for the Wii.
If the magazine’s cover art and teaser text is true, Sonic will be wielding a broadsword in his new adventure: “Big Blue swings cold steel in his big new adventure.” No other…
Sega and Treasure bring more Bleach to the DS at E3
Sega showcased a bit more of the next Bleach DS fighting game, Bleach: Dark Souls at E3. The title, which is scheduled for a Q3 2008 release, is once again a fighting game by Treasure. It features an original storyline, 44 playable fighters, 30 new cards and a brand new, branching story mode.
The new storyline, which is used to unlock new characters and earn points to unlock other items, is set between the Save Rukia Arc and the Bount arc. In it strange things are happening in Soul Society before Ichigo, Orihime, Chad and Uryu return to the human world. Hollows are showing up, and they stay to train and help fight them.
