Rumor: Next DS to feature built-in camera and mp3 player
Nintendo may have been bluffing when the company stated that a DS redesign wasn’t in the works. Japanese newspaper Nikkei has reported that Nintendo is working on a DS redesign that will hit Japan before the end of 2008. Supposed new features referenced in the Nikkei story include a camera, increased Wi-Fi abilities and the ability to play music. The alleged price for the system remake will be around 20,000 yen/$188.
There are also more possible features. NeoGAF and Wired reported that Monex briefly ran a version of the Nikkei story which also claimed that the retooled DS will share information with Wii units by using an SD card and have bigger screens than the existing models…
Rumor: New DS may include dual touch screens, one widescreen
As if responding to Sony’s redesigned PSP, rumors are circulating that Nintendo is working on a redesign of the DS. Sales of Nintendo’s handheld system continue to show remarkable market stability in the US and Japan and Nintendo obviously wants to keep that trend going by giving the DS a face lift. IGN got its hands on leaked information that suggest more than just another small and lighter design.
Between April and May 2009, Nintendo will allegedly introduce a new DS that incorporates widescreen technology into one of the screens. At the same time, both screens are rumored to become be touch-enabled…
Rumor: PSP-3001 on the way
![]()
The PSP Slim has been out for a while now so it may be surprising to learn that Sony is working on a new version. Patents were found lingering on the FCC website show multiple very technical documents about the new PSP-3001 series. Before jumping up with glee you should know that the patents don’t show anything new…
Dabbledoo releases Gamertell 2008 with a new design

If you are reading this I expect that you have noticed the new look, here at Gamertell. We have been working hard the past month to roll out this new design. As we started on this design journey we set our goal to substantially increase brand association and recognition of Gamertell. We really liked the logo on the old site but the rest had become a bit blah. Some of our larger competitors has redesigned in many of the same colors we were using and part of this wireframe is reducing complexity.

RottenTomatoes “improves” site by removing videogames
Something seriously stinks at RottenTomatoes. The game stats and reviews have been removed completely from the site with game information shuffled to the back pages. The only indication of games on the main site is an IGN partner link at the top and bottom of the pages in small print.
Here is a letter from the editor of RottenTomatoes, Matt Atchity, that explains the change…
Rumor: Nintendo DS redesign may be just around the corner
According to Evan Wilson, an analyst at Pacific Crest Securities, the Nintendo DS may be receiving another facelift. In his latest investor’s note, Wilson claims that Nintendo has completed a redesign of the prized handheld. Wilson indicates that the new DS has on-board storage and larger screens, but more surprising is its purported lack of the GBA port that is present in both the original DS and DS Lite.
Although a new DS would be a welcome addition to many gaming libraries, sales of the DS Lite are already very strong. Wilson notes that the success of the DS Lite may make it difficult for Nintendo to time an effective release date for the new design.
Nintendo has not yet commented on Wilson’s claims but the idea of a DS redesign is quite plausible considering the numerous redesigns of the GameBoy and GameBoy Advance. If the redesign is confirmed, the new handheld will be the first member of the DS family to lack backwards compatibility, which will likely be met by mixed reactions from fans.

Redesigned PSP lighter, thinner and lasts longer

Putting an end to all those annoying rumors, Sony’s chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, Kazuo Hirai, revealed at its press conference yesterday (July 11, 2007) that the PSP is getting redesigned to be a bit lighter, thinner and last quite a bit longer.
The revamped PSP, which will not change in name, will retain the same guts yet be 19% thinner and 33% lighter with a battery that is promised to last four times longer than the current PSP. The “D” control pad has also been redesigned for better response time and the PSP will also allow quick connection to an external video device, such as HD TVs.
Besides the standard black version, the new PSP models will also come in silver and a special edition white Star Wars PSP bundled with the game Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.
Another bundle will be released featuring the Ratchet & Clank PSP game, Family Guy UMD video and a 1 GB memory stick. The bundles are expected to retail for $199 while the standalone PSP ver. 2.0 should cost about the same as the current model ($169). All are expected in stores September 2007.

Sony reduces PS2’s weight by one-third
Sony does it again. They’re taking the PS2 to the gym to slim it down even more. Even with all the excitement about Sony’s latest project, the PS3, the powerhouse company still found time to give their favorite child a little one-on-one.
The SCPH-79000 line of PS2s, the ones being distributed in Japan, are on a diet. Unlike regular diets, this one worked. The new model has sweated off 300 grams, taking the total weight from 900g to 600g. Even the AC adapter got a make-over, losing 100 grams to weigh in at 250g.
However, if the PS2 were a self-conscious dieter, it would have been disappointed in the results. All the reduction was done internally, resulting in ...
