Get the kids together with EA’s Hasbro Family Game Night
Electronic Arts continues to hitch a ride on the Wii bandwagon, announcing Hasbro Family Game Night. The game will feature five classic board games, including Battleship, Yahtzee, Boggle, Connect Four, and Sorry! Best of all, the game will be hosted by the one and only Mr. Potato Head.
In addition to playing the traditional versions of the games, players will also get a chance to play newly enhanced versions like Connect Four Power Chips, Battleship Barrage, Reverse Yahtzee and Boggle Portal Cubes, which will feature new rule sets and power-ups. The game will also allow players to customize their own game room with unlockable furniture, trophies, and other decorations.
EA is clearly going after the casual/family/party market, and as such, are going to be bringing the game to both the NIntendo Wii and the PlayStation 2. Hasbro Family Game Night will be released in Fall 2008.

Rock Band Wii, PS2 to get new tracks, too
While the PS2 and upcoming Wii versions of Rock Band aren’t privy to the downloadable tracks that hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions each week, that doesn’t mean that they won’t be getting additional tracks to rock out to in the future.
Harmonix has announced the Rock Band Track Pack: Volume 1, which will give Wii and PS2 owners 20 new tracks when it’s released on July 15, 2008.
The Track Pack, which will retail for $29.99, will feature a mix of classic rock and more modern tunes culled from the downloadable content (DLC) available on the other two platforms. Click through for the complete track listing:
7 Greatest videogame urban legends
Who doesn’t love a good “top xx” list? Kezins.com has an awesome little list of videogaming’s best urban legends, including the infamous “Nude Raider” code and the “PS2 will be used to launch Iraqi missiles” conspiracy theory.
My personal favorite has to be the Polybus mystery. From the post:
“The Urban Legend - A government run arcade cabinet was used to collect data. Once played this game would cause seizures, memory loss and people were brainwashed.”
Its a fun, quick read, and well worth checking out for a dose of gaming nostalgia/paranoia.
PopCap Vol 2 headed to the PS2
PopCap Games is going to be releasing another $19.95 budget video game for the Playstation 2. PopCap Hits Volume 2 will contain two of PopCap’s most popular titles, Zuma and Heavy Weapon. The title marks the PS2 debut of both games and will be available sometime in June, 2008. Both of the casual games in the collection were previously released on Xbox Live Arcade with great success.
Konami announces Metal Gear Solid Essential Collection for the PS2
Konami has announced the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for the Playstation 2. While the press release doesn’t mention a shipping date, scanning the collection’s newly-created entries at Amazon and Gamestop reveals an expected March 18, 2008, shipping date. It’s priced at $29.99 and rated M by the ESRB.
The compilation features the original Playstation version of the first Metal Gear Solid and the…
CID the Dummy to hit all platforms
Crash Test Dummies were so 1990, but Oxygen Int. and Twelve Interactive are hoping to restore life to the inanimate dummy. CID the Dummy has been announced as an upcoming release for the DS, PC, PS2, PSP and Wii. It should be available by the end of 2008. It is designed to be a lighthearted platformer/action game for all ages. This may just be me, but when I first saw the press release and images, the first thing that leapt to mind was Death Jr., only with a dummy.
Arcana Heart to be released outside of Japan
Two PS2 game announcements has to be good news for an owner of a system which is nearing retirement. Arcana Heart, an all girl fighting game which has been compared to the Guilty Gear series in terms of control and gameplay, is going to be released in North America. Atlus has announced that it will be bringing this game to American shores on April 8, 2008.
Silent Hill Origins now appearing on PS2
Another PSP exclusive is no more, now that Konami has announced that Silent Hill Origins will be released on the PS2 in May 2008. Originally the game was released November 6, 2007 and heralded as an exclusive for the often neglected handheld. Now it has been snatched away, just like Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.
16 SNK classics in 1 game
SNK Playmore is following the lead of Sega, Midway, EA and Capcom, as the company has just announced it will be releasing SNK Arcade Classics: Volume 1. The game, which will be released on both the Playstation 2 and Playstation Portable, will feature 16 games (seven of them fighters). SNK Playmore has stated that the title should be available before the end of Q2, 2008. Go Nintendo also reports that the game will appear on the Wii, despite the SNK Playmore press release making no mention of it.
SNK Arcade Classics: Volume 1 features quite a few must-have titles. The classic fighting games Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters ‘94 and Samurai Shodown are all included. Plus three more famous titles…
