Everyone has been speculating about the release of a new PSP. Fan Samuel Lau is one of the PSP fans hoping for the announcement, and on the official Sony PSP forums displayed his vision of what the next version should look like.

As Yanko Design points out, Lau’s vision looks like a combination of a T-Mobile Sidekick phone and an existing PSP. Lau’s improvements to the system include a screen that slides up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard and a camera built in.

DC nabs Gears of War, Prototype comic book deals

dc comicsDC Comics, the world’s second largest comic book publisher. has announced that it will be publishing two more comic books based videogames this year: 2006’s game of the year, Gears of War, and the upcoming open-world action game, Prototype.

Already publishing the World of Warcraft comic under DC’s imprint company, WildStorm, Gears of War and Prototype are continuing DC’s move into the videogame industry. This week, DC also revealed its teaming with Midway Games which is publishing a Mortal Kombat vs DC title…

The source went as far as providing MTV with a sketch of the last prototype of the new motion-sensing controller for the Xbox 360 that it claims to have seen. The controller’s design bears a striking resemblance to the WiiMote…

Prototype’s multiplayer mode scrapped

Prototype, a much-hyped and much-anticipated game being developed by Radical Entertainment, will not feature any online multiplayer. The unfortunate news comes from Radical’s Tim Bennison who spoke with Team Xbox. Previously, the game was supposed to have online multiplayer functionality but it has been scrapped as the developers found it difficult to integrate it.

Prototype to be first game to feature Neural-THX 7.1 surround sound

Using a game with a rather bland name, THX Ltd. is at CES 2008 showing off its 7.1 stereo goodness with the first title to include Neural-THX Surround.

The game, titled Prototype, is being developed by Radical Entertainment and is expected to be available Fall 2008 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. It will feature a shapeshifter and open-ended free roam elements similar to Grand Theft Auto.

Neural-THX Surround is a 7.1 audio format developed with Neural Audio Corp. that will require gamers to add two more speakers to the back of their family rooms. The added speakerage is meant to create a truly 360-degree audio experience, although it does mean you’ll need too look for a new 7.1 audio receiver. According to the THX press release, ‘an estimated 70 percent of new audio-video receivers, from companies such as Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, Integra, Denon, Marantz, Inkel and Sherwood. Neural-THX Surround AV receivers are being shipped in more than 25 countries worldwide.“

For those who forgot, THX was founded by George Lucas of Howard the Duck fame as a result of a need for better sound for his little Star Wars project.

Sierra to create more products, franchises based on its games

Sierra EntertainmentSierra Entertainment has announced that it is willing to ramp up the development of new products based on four titles from different genres - real-time strategy, open world, first person shooters and children’s games.

The games, most of which have already been released, include F.E.A.R. as a new first-person shooter by Sierra followed by Prototype as an open-world action title from Radical Entertainment, a polished TimeShift from Sabre Interactive and a future development of The Spiderwick Chronicles as a movie based children’s game to be released on February 2008…
