Nintendo’s upcoming release list - they love the hardcore, after all

by Danielle Riendeau on Oct 31, 2008 at 04:34 PM

Nintendo
Destructoid posted a very handy list of Nintendo’s upcoming releases today, with the most up-to-date release dates that we have. Everything from Pikmin 1 and 2 to the ultra-anticipated new Punch Out!! are on there, along with a couple of MIA titles that raised a few eyebrows - Fatal Frame 4 is nowhere to be seen.

Metroid Prime, Pikmin get Wii-made

by Danielle Riendeau on Oct 4, 2008 at 09:32 AM

Metroid Prime
Just after I reported on all the remakes coming to the Wii, Nintendo announced a slew of excellent Gamecube games getting a Wii makeover. 1up reported that adventure-FPS classics Metroid Prime 1 and 2, along with garden-strategy hybrids Pikmin 1 and 2 will receive the upgraded treatment. Also on the list of Wii-makes are Mario Tennis, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Chibi-Robo. The games will reportedly feature Wii-mote controls for maximum Wii enjoyment. It all begins this December.

Yes! I don’t even care anymore that half of the decent games on Wii are remakes, updates or ports of old games. Quality is quality, and I can’t wait to dive back in to Metroid Prime and Pikmin all over again.

During last night’s E3 2008 Nintendo Developer Roundtable where games like Animal Crossing, Wii Music and Wii Sports Resort were being presented, a sudden and off-topic question informed all of the return of a familiar title.  During the presentation, an audience member had to have his or her Pikmin fix, and asked if another game would eventually be made.  To the surprise of many, Shigeru Miyamoto, casually confirmed that a new Pikmin game is being made…

Pikmin step up in Super Smash Brothers Brawl

by Jenni Lada on Jan 11, 2008 at 04:35 PM

Olimer and the pikmin
The latest Smash Bros. DOJO!! update introduces Captain Olimer from Pikmin to the fighting roster of the upcoming Wii game, Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Of course Olimer isn’t alone in the coming battles, he is joined by five different kinds of pikmin, whose only purpose in life is to serve him. See, Olimer is essentially useless without the plantlike title characters from the original game. So the best thing to do when fighting as him is to stay on the ground and make sure you’ve harvested six pikmin to follow in case of emergency.

When Olimer attacks, he takes the pikmin following directly behind him and uses it to smack other brawlers. Each one has different attributes and abilities, so players also have to be a bit strategic when deciding who to hunt down and whack. Olimer also uses the pikmin to execute his special attacks, and while his Final Smash hasn’t been announced, I’m sure it will involve an attack using pikmins as well.

Olimer reminds me a bit of the Pokemon Trainer character which was announced earlier, except more difficult to use. I’m sure certain people will perfect strategies with him, but it also seems like Olimer is going to be a pain for beginners to use. Super Smash Brothers Brawl should be arriving in stores on February 10, 2008, barring any futher delays.

Nintendo teases gamers with trademarks

by Lucy Newman on Sep 9, 2007 at 02:11 AM

Nintendo is up to somethingThere have been strange reports of Nintendo filing interesting trademarks lately.

One of the trademarks Nintendo is registering is actually a renewal for Miyamoto’s game Pikmin, which was hinted at several years ago. Perhaps they’re almost ready for the third installment of those cute little flower people. One could only guess that it may be coming to the Wii console if Nintendo is renewing the trademark.

The trademark Nintendo Magic is rumored to be a…
