This is certainly unexpected - Atlus is rereleasing Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the second Persona game released in the US. It isn’t some huge remake project though. Instead, Atlus is issuing a reprint of the PlayStation game and selling it directly through Amazon.

The reprint is exactly like the original Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, so if you always wanted to try the earlier Persona game, which was known for its rarity, you can experience the same game all the original fans did. There is also a special incentive to buy it - it comes with a extra disc that includes a Persona 2 anime trailer and an interview with the Persona 2 creators. Don’t you just hate it when a special edition version of something you’ve already bought comes out. Especially when its a special edition version with loads of extra content. Imagine, then, how original Persona 3 buyers felt when eight months after they purchased their version of the game, Atlus released Persona 3: FES, which included extra content and a whole extra game.

In order to help mend any still-broken hearts, Atlus has just announced that Persona 4, which comes out December 9, 2008, will not be rereleased with additional content.
