With sports fanatics watching the 2008 Beijing Olympics to cheer their favorite teams, gamers can partake in the games via the Beijing 2008 Olympics Video Game for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
Released on July 8, 2008, for $49.99, the official game of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games promised players the ability to play online with other fans of the Olympics games.
But not everyone was thrilled with the game.
Throughout the years the Olympics have always managed to make it in the gaming world. Some of the official Olympic games that have hit the stands in the past years include…
Gamertell Review: Beijing 2008 for Xbox 360

Title: Beijing 2008 (aka Beijing Olympics 2008, Beijing 2008 Olympics, Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics)
Price: $49.99 ($29.99 as PC Download)
System(s): *Xbox 360, PS3, PC/Download (Mobile)
Release Date: July 8, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Sega (Eurocom)
ESRB Rating: “Everyone”
Pros: Includes a lot of events and character graphics are rather impressive.
Cons: Too much thumbstick twitching, too many awkward movements and poorly queued events. Too much clicking to get to an actual event.
Overall Score: One thumb sideways, one thumb down; 65/100; D; * 1/2 out of five.
With events already completed and the Beijing 2008 Olympics soon coming to an end, it’s very likely more than a few gamers will still have that Olympic itch, the desire to compete and a residual want of track and field sports.

Register now for the OGPlanet Olympics

OGPlanet.com is going to be fashionably late with it’s free-to-play MMO’s Olympic celebrations. Rather than running its games’ Olympic events at the same time as the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, it is going to be holding events in Albatross18, Cabal Online and Rumble Fighter from September 4 to 14, 2008. Registration for the Olympic events opened August 19, 2008.
If you want to compete, you’ll have to sign up in the OGPlanet forums. You must join teams with players from the three MMOs to enter. Only 48 teams will be able to compete. The winners will receive prizes (like in-game currency and an item for La Tale) and honor.
Olympic gold medalist Kosuke Kitajima thanks Mario for victory
![]()
With all this coverage of the Olympics, both on television and online, I have seen several sources that have stated that Japanese Olympic swimmer Kosuke Kitajima, after he had won the gold meal for the men’s 100 meter breaststroke, had some very interesting, very videogame-related things to say:
See, Mario does the breaststroke. And thus, it’s perfect mental training for envisioning the actual Olympic hall.
Say what!? Did he just say that videogames can actually do more than…

Outspark’s free-to-play, massive multiplayer online snowboarding gameProject Powder is now in open beta. Take heart, if you were denied entry to the closed beta, for your time has now come. Mabinogi celebrates the 2008 Olympics with pandas

In order to celebrate the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Nexon has added a new pet to Mabinogi - the panda. Rather than just making the panda pet the only way to commemorate the occasion, Nexon is also holding two panda and Olympic related events in the game from August 7-28, 2008. Both events require players to use the premium cash shop to participate.
The first event requires you to purchase the limited edition panda pet for 7,900 NX/$7.90. After you buy him and see him in game, you’ll see he’ll be carrying a special panda gachapon item. This item contains either panda paws or a panda ear headband for your Mabinogi character to wear.
Olympic events in Pi Story and Last Chaos

In honor of the 2008 Olympic Games being held in Beijing, Aeria Games is holding Olympic style events in two of its free massive multiplayer online (MMO) games, Pi Story and Last Chaos. However, while the official Olympic games opening ceremony was today (August 8, 2008), only the Pi Story events begin today. Last Chaos’ Olympic events will begin August 11, 2008.
Both Last Chaos and Pi Story will have special events running during the Olympic period - mainly races or timed events. Players will be able to compete to win gold, silver and bronze medals, prizes and a place in the events’ record books. An end date for the events has not been revealed.
American Olympic training facility a home away from home

With the start of the 2008 Olympics nearing, the world’s eyes are turning toward Beijing for big displays of sportsmanship and brotherhood to unite the world. While the other nation’s teams are preparing in their own ways, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has created a private training facility for the American representatives to not only help them prepare in a familiar way but also to give them a little taste of home. Yes, that means videogames, too.
So far the USOC has spent more than $3 million and at peak operating hours has up to 500 staffers working help American athletes train and unwind. It has all the supplies the athletes would need to stay in peak physical and…
International Athletics leaps onto PSP
The start of the 2008 Olympic games in Bejing is just days away and the videogame industry is capitalizing on the event as expected. Game publisher Ghostlight brings us one of the first 2008 Olympics-inspired game on handhelds called International Athletics. International Athletics is not directly connected to the 2008 Olympic Games but it promises to provide an experience that’s fitting to the event. The game is out right now for PSP and the DS version will ship at an unannounced date.
International Athletics prides itself on concentrating on four essential disciplines of Olympic sporting events including…
