EA gives Tomb Raider:Underworld the mobile treatment

Hot off the heels of its botched attempt to acquire Take-Two, Electronic Arts has teamed up with Eidos to publish one of its biggest franchises. Tomb Raider: Underworld will make its way onto consoles in November of 2008, but it will also make an appearance on mobile devices as well.
Unlike the console versions, which are being published by Eidos Interactive, the rights to publish the mobile iteration of Tomb Raider: Underworld sits solely with EA Mobile. EA signed an agreement with Eidos giving it the right to publish Underworld, alongside mobile versions of Just Cause 2, California Games X, and Minesweeper...

N-Gage First Access pushed to 2008
![]()
The rebirth of the N-Gage seems to be marred with delays. It was earlier expected in November 2007, but then Nokia announced that the service would be delayed until December. Last week (Thursday, December 13, 2007), an official announcement had it releasing this week. But now there is another twist in the N-Gage tale, with a fresh entry on the official N-Gage blog announcing that the service is going to be delayed further.
All you Nokia phone owners with a passion for video games should forget the N-Gage First Access game service until 2008. According to the post on the blog, the N-Gage service and games are all working smoothly but there is a glitch that will need some fixing. This glitch was unraveled courtesy rigorous testing by the 1000 global testers of the new service.
Nokia hasn’t put a date on the release of the mobile gaming service but expects to fix the issues by the end of this year. There is also a possibility that not all of the big games, expected to be part of the launch line-up, are ready yet.

Airborne Entertianment takes new approach to mobile games
According to President of Airborne Entertainment, Andy Nulman, mobile phone games fail to attract gamers to portable gaming in the shadow of PCs and consoles. It’s hard enough to read the phone numbers off the tiny little screen much less see how you’re doing on the game.
Even trying to monitor your cell phone batteries while you play - hoping to make that final score before its completely drained completely - makes gaming on a cellular phone less attractive.
That is why Nulman is taking a different approach to cellphone gaming, declaring that “the passion isn’t there” during his recent keynote speech at the Playback Magazine Mobile Entertainment Forum (titled “Mobile: What Sucks and How to Fix It”). n his speech, Nulman discussed the many obstacles that have created indifferent consumers.
Geometry Wars goes mobile
Verizon Wireless and Sony BMG Music Entertainment has announced that its newest and exclusive mobile phone game, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved Mobile, is now available to select Verizon Wireless Get It Now-capable phones including enV by LG, MOTOKRZR K1m and Samsung SCH-a950 cellphones.
In this modern arcade-style game with retro spirit, the player controls a space ship that must annihilate a never-ending onslaught of various enemy shapes. Players can use either four- or eight-way buttons, as well as the keypad to maneuver the game with the same precision as the original…
Puzzle Quest coming to more systems
D3 Publisher of America recently announced more release platforms for its wildly popular puzzle/RPG hybrid, Puzzle Quest. Gamers can expect the Wii, PS2 and PC versions to arrive Fall 2007, with a mobile incarnation coming in early 2008. An Xbox Live arcade version (already announced) is also arriving soon.
Since its March 2007 release, the DS release of Puzzle Quest has been burning up sales charts, especially the DS version, named the #1 selling puzzle game on Nintendo’s handheld, no easy feat with killer titles like Meteos and Planet Puzzle League as part of the lineup. The very definition of a sleeper hit, Puzzle Quest was quietly released and gathered fame largely by word of mouth and excellent reviews from major publications.
Anyone who hasn’t gotten completely, hopelessly addicted on the title’s mix of swords and sorcery style level building-meets-Bejeweled gameplay will have no excuse now. It will literally be available for every conceivable platform by early 2008.
