Playstation Store Update: Black Friday and Thanksgiving 2008 edition

With the Thanksgiving holiday rapidly approaching, Sony has decided to gift gamers early with enough games and content worthy of a feast. Digitally speaking, that is.
The main course in this update feast is the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix, which will set players back $15. This game has already been received favorably from sites such as 1UP and IGN and will definitely please any Street Fighter fan.
For gamers who choose to exercise their minds rather than their muscles, Brain Challenge will also be available for purchase. For $10, players can see just how strong their minds are in comparison to the competition.
For players who want to sample some older Playstation Store content, Echochrome, The Last Guy, PixelJunk Eden, Novastrike and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 will be on sale for…
Giving Thanks: Top ten things this gamer’s thankful for in 2008
Halloween just passed us by without a hitch, handed out treats to the goblins and fairies and the occasional witch. But soon Thanksgiving day will be here. So while my other stories are forming and interviews are completed I wondered what I could possibly be thank for this year aside from the usual family, friends and fine wines and elegant turkey dinners.
So what do I have to be thankful for this year? Well here goes, and remember this is just my opinion and do feel free to add what you’re thankful for in the comments below as we celebrate them together.
- That Uwe Boll has NOT made a movie about my current favorite video game.
- That my friend (and founder of Gamers Outreach Foundation) Zachary Wigal has finally lived his dream. ...
Playstation Store Update for the week of November 20-26, 2008

Fans of additional game content will undoubtedly find reason to be played with this week’s Playstation Store update, as games including Bioshock, Dead Space and LittleBigPlanet found their stocks on the rise as they were gifted with additional perks that will assuredly cause gamers to give them a second look.
Along with beefy content updates for these three games, this update includes the latest batch of Guitar Hero, Karaoke Revolution and Rock Band songs for players to practice on…
Nominees for Spike TV’s Video Game Awards announced
Another year and another Video Game Awards show. Better known as SpikeTV’s VGAs, this will be the sixth year for the show.
Love it or loath it the show will go on in full spectacle that will include a performance by rapper turned-video game character, 50 Cent, and a “Gamer God” award for Will Wright.
The list this year looks fairly promising without too much of one game in your face like last year’s seven nominations for a certain alien-shooting game and a game about an undersea dystopia.

Wal-Mart offering $100 gift card with PS3 purchase

If you’re still holding out to buy a PS3, Wal-Mart has a good offer to get you into the door.
Starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2008, Wal-Mart will be selling the 80GB PS3 for $399 with a $100 gift card as an added bonus. Wal-Mart can’t sell every PS3 at this price so it will only have 4 units per store. If you’re in an area that has been…
User creates Gradius level in LittleBigPlanet

Someone is after my heart. Unfortunately, I can’t receive the love thanks to the fact that I had to buy Fallout 3 first (still a very fine game). But maybe those of you who own the do-it-yourself game, LittleBigPlanet (which according to Joystiq has just become a verb), can claim the love for me.
Someone has created a damn fine Gradius-themed level inside the game which, according to Ripten, goes by the name “Libidius.jp”...
Enough with the patches

I would like to touch on a topic that seems to be popping up constantly. I’m talking about game developers patching up games like there’s no tomorrow. Most recently, games such as LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM Confrontation, Fable 2, and Castle Crashers have been victims of a crucial gameplay element being either broken or excluded from launch. The good thing about technology and consoles in this generation is the ability of adding or fixing content through the use of a simple patch. However, just because developers have this ability doesn’t mean they should abuse it.
LittleBigPlanet servers online briefly, now offline
Following a short delay as a result of religious controversy involving text from the Qur’an appearing in the game, Media Molecule’s highly anticipated Playstation 3 exclusive, LittleBigPlanet, has finally launched across North America and is being backed by a series of official servers which should allow users to share and trade their custom content with others.
Unfortunately, Kotaku has been in contact with Media Molecule in order to confirm that the company has been forced to temporarily close the game’s servers down after only eight hours of up-time in order to avoid “glitching issues.” It is hoped that any issues will be resolved and the servers powered back up very soon.
In happier news…
LiitleBigPlanet now shipping October 27, amid delay controversy
As we reported earlier, PS3 platformer/game creation tool LittleBigPlanet suffered from an emergency delay this week, once it was discovered that some game content was offensive to Muslims. We had no official word on the release date until now - when the PlayStation blog announced that the game will ship on October 27, 2008. Thankfully, it’s a fairly minor delay, but damage to Sony’s reputation among Middle Eastern gamers has probably already been done.
It’s not a very happy situation, but at the very least, the delay won’t be very long at all. PS3 gamers will be able to build and share their creations with the world starting a week from Monday.

Religious controversy causes LittleBigPlanet delay
There will be a few sad little sackboys sitting out in the cold this week, since LittleBigPlanet just got an emergency delay, due to the inclusion of a song that includes statements from the Quran (the Muslim religious text - spelled according to the source post). According to 1Up, a forum poster noticed the lyrics and “respectfully requested that they be removed”. The gamer in question was reportedly a Muslim himself, and found the mixture of holy text and pop music offensive.
Sony took immediate action,
