Gaia Online to include in-world instant messaging

by Lucy Newman on Sep 24, 2008 at 09:19 AM

Gaia online now features an instant messengerI just received a message from Gaia online today that asked a strange question: “Hi Lucy, What do Neopets, MapleStory and Habbo all have in common?“

Out of curiosity I logged into my Gaia Online account to see what Kate Pietrelli, an account manager for TriplePoint (Gaia’s PR agency), is typing about and, sure enough, along the top of the page is the option to send an instant message my fellow Gaians…

Developer’s WiiWare comment invites Nintendo’s wrath

by Pulkit Chandna on Jan 16, 2008 at 04:33 PM

Engine SoftwareThe Wii might be the best console in the market but it trails the other consoles in overall online experience. The WiiWare online game downloading service is expected to turn a corner and enhance the online component of the Wii experience. The service has engendered a lot of buzz since Nintendo first unveiled its WiiWare plans.

This excitement increased when news of developer Engine Software’s WiiWare title, Project Bang, was announced. The game’s release was announced for March 2008, which led to speculation that WiiWare might release in North America and Europe during that time. In actuality, only the Japanese release dates had been announced.

Nintendo had previously announced that the first WiiWare games will appear in March 2008, though the launch plans for Europe and North America haven’t been divulged. It is such a huge launch for Nintendo and so it is understandably irked by Engine Software’s announcement missing the vital words “in Japan,“ fueling the speculations. A Nintendo rep dismissed the US/Europe release rumor in a statement to TechNewsWorld

Engine Software has clarified, putting it all down to a case of misinterpretation. It has apologetically conveyed that it failed to explicitly state in the announcement that WiiWare is scheduled to release in March 2008 in Japan only. As it didn’t specifically mention Japan, most people thought that the game downloading service would launch in other territories also.

Halo 3 to dwarf sales of previous two games

by Pulkit Chandna on Sep 13, 2007 at 09:59 AM

Halo 3
There was never any doubt that Halo 3 would rewrite video game history, at least not in Microsoft’s mind. Microsoft is so confident of Halo 3’s potential success that it is training its eyes on a few records set by previous games in this haloed series.

The cumulative sales figure of Halo 1 and Halo 2 is an impressive 11 million copies sold, and Microsoft expects Halo 3 to single-gamedly better the combined sale of the two games. Microsoft’s Chris Di Cesare said they were well ahead of where they were with Halo 2, and on course to outsell the previous two games…

Xbox 360 price slashed in UK on Bioshock launch day

by Pulkit Chandna on Aug 20, 2007 at 09:17 PM

Bioshock

The land of the stiff upper lipped has officially received its long-awaited Xbox 360 price cut. Microsoft today announced that the Xbox 360 would be cheaper, effective August 24, 2007, to coincide with the launch of the title Bioshock.

Both the Core and Premium versions will be cheaper at £179.99 and £249.99 respectively, making the Core 360’s price identical to the Wii’s. This should appease the Brit gamers who were sobbing about not getting a 360 price-cut along with the US. There is more in store for them as the Xbox Elite will also launch on Friday, August 24, 2007, at a lower than expected price point of £299.99.

Microsoft hopes to woo more mainstream and first-time gamers with…

PS3 may be the cause of GTA IV’s delay

by Pulkit Chandna on Aug 5, 2007 at 12:12 PM

Gamertell Grand Theft Auto IV Logo

Michael Pachter, a videogame analyst from Wedbush Morgan Securities, has thrust the blame for the delay in the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS3, creating one of the most agonizing delay the games industry has ever witnessed. However, he is no fanboy and seems to have done his homework pretty well before putting the blame on Sony’s mean machine. He believes that the Xbox 360 version o the game is up and kicking and that it is the PS3 version, which…
