Deal of the Week: Best Buy tossing in Xbox 360 with select HDTVs

by Jeremy Hill on Oct 13, 2008 at 03:14 PM

Best BuyVideo games are meant to be experienced with the most state-of-the-art television we can possibly find. The problem is HDTV penetration is not at its ideal level right now and some gamers are still playing in standard definition. Best Buy is looking to bring those gamers over to the realm of HD by offering up bundles that include Xbox 360 Arcade Consoles and HDTV’s made by Panasonic.

At the end of Best Buy’s circular for October 11, 2008, are two deals shown side by side. The first is that Best Buy is selling a 32 in. LCD Panasonic 720p HDTV with the Xbox 360 Arcade console for $699. This deal will continue throughout the week until…

Sony’s HDTV and PS3 deal

by Danielle Riendeau on Dec 29, 2007 at 01:38 PM

Sony free PS3 deal
Joystiq is reporting on a very tasty holiday deal over at Sony’s website, where buying a new HDTV nets you a free PS3. Of course, there are caveats - you need to make the purchase with a Sony visa credit card, and the offer ends on New Year’s eve.

However, if you possess a Sony card and if you’ve been looking to step into the HD world (two big “ifs”), then you can’t go wrong here. There was no mention of which PS3 model comes free (though, its likely that it’s the stripped-down $399 version), and the offer is good on a selection of Bravia and SXRD HDTV’s, so you aren’t allowed to pick any model that tickles your fancy.

In any event, this is the late Christmas present of the century, if you have your cards lined up just right. It’s too bad the offer ends so soon, I would imagine quite a few gamers would like to take advantage of it, but can’t due to the Sony card aspect.

PS3 owners lead the High Definition race

by Pulkit Chandna on Dec 26, 2007 at 03:16 PM

HDTV
When the 7th generation console war first began, many gamers spent sleepless nights over making the costly transition to the next-gen consoles. It was not only the actual price of the consoles, but the price of accessories deemed vital for the truest next-gen gaming experience, which played heavily on gamers’ minds . One of the most important things for a true next-gen gaming experience is an HDTV, sales of which were only beginning to pick-up at the beginning of the 7th gen of consoles. A couple of years since, it is interesting to note which console owners are big on HDTV’s and high-end setups.

A Nielsen study titled THX Gaming Study has concluded that PS3 owners have adopted HD displays the fastest, with 71% of them owning an HDTV. Around 54% of the PS3 owners also enjoy their games with surround sound. Xbox 360 users come in next with 66% of them possessing an HDTV. But the Wii owners are hot on the heels of their 360-owning counterparts with 65% having an HD display. As for surround sound, the numbers for the Xbox 360 and Wii are 48% and 43% respectively.

That PS3 owners are more HD-friendly hasn’t surprised me one bit, but the fact that the Wii and Xbox 360 numbers were so close has.
