Gamertell Review: Iron Man for PSP

by PJ Hruschak on May 8, 2008 at 06:14 PM

gamertell iron man for psp box artTitle: Iron Man
Price: $29.99
System(s): PSP (also available on DS, Wii, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
Release Date: May 2, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Sega (Havok)
ESRB Rating: “Teen” for alcohol reference, mild language and violence.
Pros: Captures the essence of the character quite well with the ability to fly at any time and use various weapons. Good looking (if not entirely accurate) cutscenes and nice bonuses.
Cons: Early stages a bit long and clunky. PSP controls get in the way throughout the game.
Overall Score: Two thumbs sideways; 73/100; C; * * out of 5.

Iron Man for PSP could have been a much more fun game if it weren’t for those pesky PSP controls. It has pretty good looking graphics, rather fluid character movements and even some decent attacks (and voice acting). Otherwise, it’s quite a letdown that starts slow and never quite redeems itself.

Rumor: Smash Bros. Brawl might have third-party physics engine

by Joshua Mallory on Sep 13, 2007 at 10:44 AM

Havoc LogoWe know almost nothing about Smash Bros. Brawl that Nintendo hasn’t spoon-fed us through their Smash Bros. Dojo website.  There is, however, one strong rumor working through the mills.

Havoc, a maker of game development tools, briefly listed Smash Bros. Brawl on its website as one of the official sponsors of their software, along with Halo 3 and PAIN.  Just as soon as it was posted, it was gone without comment.  There hasn’t been much press about it but it’s far too juicy to be a coincidence.  Over at the Smashboards blog, there are a handful of screencaps that explain what this might mean for the game.

One of the hallmarks of Super Smash Bros., and to a lesser extent, Smash Bros. Melee, is the wild and sometimes unpredictable physics that include being hit toward one direction and launched in another.  Having a professionally designed physics engine might nudge the game toward more competitive multiplayer respectability.
