Gamertell Review: Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360
Title: Grand Theft Aufo IV
Price: $59.99
System(s): Xbox 360, PS3
Release Date: April, 28, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar)
Rating: ”Mature" for blood, intense violence, partial nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, use of alcohol and use of drugs.
Pros: Great game play, great narrative story, great mechanics, great online, long game play length, great city details and nearly bug-free.
Cons: The game ends eventually, not as funny as past titles, removal of past additions, some system crashes, not enough of the city is used.
Overall Score: Two Thumbs Up, 95/100, A , * * * * 1/2 out of five
With every little bump or minor complaint I’ve had with this game, it doesn’t in the slightest way detract from the overall experience.
With an online element that really allows players to experiment and create their own modes of game play GTA IV has more under its hood then any five games. GTA IV may be an evolution that doesn’t add much that we haven’t already seen in previous titles but it certainly takes everything we’ve played before and perfects it into a truly epic experience not seen since GTA III.

April NPDs - GTA IV on top
It’s that time of month again - the NPD group has released the hardware and software sales for April, and the results are anything but surprising. GTA IV had an incredible debut, sitting pretty at the top spot with 1,850,000 (Xbox 360 version) and the third spot with 1,000,000 (PS3). In between was Mario Kart Wii (Wii - duh) at 1,120,000. Hardware sales show the Wii and DS still on top, followed by the PSP, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2.

GTA may have changed real-world gang structure
While the streets might be safe for a few weeks while everyone is inside playing Grand Theft Auto IV: Vice City, it’s only a matter of time before hooligans decide to stretch their thumbs and break out of the family den or dilapidated tenement apartment (adorned with a 42 in. LCD screen cranked up to 1080p, natch).
This is the fourth time a GTA has cracked the skulls of our law- and god-fearing youth, and it’s hard not to see its influence everywhere. Take this piece in the Sunday New York Times Magazine about a group of former gang members who try to head off attempts at gangland shooting violence…
Mothers MADD about GTA IV
It is no surprise that Tuesday’s release (April 29, 2008) of Grand Theft Auto IV would be one of 2008’s biggest events as thousands gamers nation wide lined up for hours to get the first next-generation release of the Grand Theft Auto series. It shouldn’t also surprise gamers to know that numerous watchdog groups have been vocal about GTA IV.
While there haven’t been many outcries to have GTA IV pulled from store shelves until now, the latest group to set GTA IV in their sights is Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)…
Xbox exclusive Grand Theft Auto episodes in August
Grand Theft Auto IV is now available, as of midnight, April 29, 2008. So do you have your copy? Of course you do. (I don’t, but I’m one of those annoying people who still hasn’t committed to a next-gen console.)
I know it’s a bit early to start thinking about additional content, seeing as most people probably haven’t even logged 10 hours in the game, but it’s good to keep it in mind. That way you’ll know when you need to get those Microsoft points to purchase it. Xbox 360 owners will be able to download two additional Grand Theft Auto IV episodes, and they’ll probably want to know when. So far the first additional installment has an August 2008 release date, and the second episode will be made available sometime after that.
ESRB warns that GTA IV isn’t for kids
Leave it to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) to take the fun out of this year’s most anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto IV. Teaming with the National Institute on Media and the Family, the two forces are strongly advising parents to take special notice of the ESRB rating for the upcoming game before buying it for children under the age of 17.
Due to be released Tuesday April 29, 2008, GTA IV isn’t the first game to be targeted by watchdog groups. Upon the release of GTA III numerous media groups and even the United States Congress targeted GTA for its explicit violence and graphic nature, many calling for the game to be pulled from shelves. However, these comments only helped promote GTA’s sales.
Unexpectedly anticipating Grand Theft Auto IV
I have never really been a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series. While I have played most of the past installments, I have never been able to get past the bad stories, horrible AI, poor graphics and the fact that Rockstar releases a game so full of bugs that, at times, it is impossible to play, most of all San Andreas if you are playing it on the PS2.
In recent weeks, however, I have been eagerly awaiting the latest game in the series to make its next-gen debut.
Due to be released on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on April 29, 2008, Grand Theft Auto IV will take fans back to Liberty City, but don’t expect this most recent game in the incredibility successful series to be everything you remember. Expect much more…
Grand Theft Auto IV first radio stations revealed
As the April release date for the hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV nears, Rockstar has revealed 2 of the 18 radio stations that will be featured in the game.
According to IGN, the first new station is “IF99”, which will be the home for “International Funk”. IF99 will be hosted by none other then Femi Kuti, who is the son of the late Fela Kuti, a pioneering force behind Afrobeat, which is a combination of Yoruba, jazz, highlife and funk rhythms, and mixed with African percussion and vocal styles music.
Analyst says EA eying Take-Two’s sports portfolio
Wedbush Stanley’s lead videogame analyst, Michael Pachter, believes that Electronics Arts might have launched its bid for Take-Two in order to take control of the latter’s sports game division, 2K Sports, which is its only notable competitor in the sports game genre. He told Game Politics that the $26 a share price that EA has offered is fair enough and rebuffed any likelihood of any bidding war for Take-Two.
“I do not think there’s another bidder,” Pachter said. “I don’t think there’s any prayer of a bidding war.” He further suggested that it didn’t make sense for…
Grand Theft Auto IV to launch 4/29/08
1up is reporting that Rockstar has announced an official release date for hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV: April 29, 2008. Rockstar’s newest baby (and sure fire controversy-maker) will arrive simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360, without slipping into the next holiday season (as some had anticipated). The game is set to re-revolutionize the sandbox gameplay (and crime-infested open world) of previous GTA‘s, and bears some of the highest expectations of any game coming out this year.
Actually, between GTA IV, Metal Gear Solid IV, Spore and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this spring is shaping up to be quite exciting. Perhaps we’re finally seeing an end of the fourth quarter (that is, the holiday season) dominating all big releases in the game industry.
