Who you gonna call - Atari to publish Ghostbusters

by Danielle Riendeau on Nov 7, 2008 at 11:27 AM

Ghostbusters game
Good news for fans looking to bust some ghosts in the near future - the impressive looking Ghostbusters: The Video Game has been brought out of development limbo. One of the most famous casualties of the Activision-Blizzard merger, Ghostbusters was homeless until this morning, when it was announced that Atari (of all companies) will pick up the game and distribute it in 2009. The game is set to roughly coincide with the possible (and oft-rumored) next film in the franchise - officially, with the original film’s 25th anniversary - and it was written by original Ghostbusters actors/writers Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.

Rumor: Ghostbusters game to be resurrected by Atari

by Kenneth on Oct 15, 2008 at 02:48 PM

GhostbustersOnce again proving my point that if 50 Cents’ Blood on the Sand can be picked up, then somebody would eventually pick up Ghostbusters.  Our fine friends over at Kotaku have posted that Dan Akroyd, or as anyone from the eighties would know him as Raymond Stantz, has stated to a local Dallas radio station that the game has been picked up by Atari.

Alas fair buster fans, if Akroyd, the guy who co-wrote the original flick, says it’s a “go,“  then dagnabit, it’s a go.  The bad news is that Akroyd also mentioned that the game has been…

New Ghostbusters movie on the way

by Danielle Riendeau on Sep 5, 2008 at 10:36 AM

Ghostbusters
The gaming community breathed a sigh of relief when we all found out that the hot-looking Ghostbusters game was still in the works (and not canned due to the Activision-Blizzard merger). Now, fans of wacky ‘80s comedy and the supernatural can get excited all over again, as ICV2 has just announced that a new Ghostbusters film is in the works.

The new flick bears a script penned by The Office co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, a good sign. Details beyond that are scant, but rest assured that the involvement of original GB actors Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson in the upcoming game is a good sign. Just remember guys - don’t cross the streams!

Rick Moranis says “No way, eh” to Ghostbusters game

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 7, 2008 at 09:53 AM

gamertell ghostbusters the vieo game videogame box artIn what would be a major bummer for Ghostbusters fans, Canadian comedian Rick Moranis will not be lending his voice to the upcoming game bearing the films’ name.

The game, being developed by Sierra, will feature the voices of most of the other cast members, including (according to Das Gamer) Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, William Atherton and…

New site for Ghostbusters game

by Danielle Riendeau on Apr 10, 2008 at 10:41 AM

ghostbusters movie logoGamer’s hell is reporting on the new website for Sierra’s upcoming Ghostbusters game. Fans can take a Ghostbusters quiz, spy screenshots and press info, and “apply to be an experimental weapons technician”.

It’s all very kitschy, especially for old fans of the franchise. Details on the actual game left me a bit wanting. All that’s revealed is the scenario (penned by the original Ghostbusters creators, and starring the original film cast - somehow), in which you play a new recruit and use a variety of weapons to hunt down ghosts. So can we expect a goofier, more adult Luigi’s Mansion set in Manhattan?

Actually, that would be pretty cool. Terminal Reality is developing the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, with Red Fly Studios doing the honors on the PS2, Wii, and DS titles; all are due for a fall 2008 release.

What game you gonna call, er, play? Ghostbusters!

by Christopher Buckner on Nov 19, 2007 at 07:47 PM

gamertell ghostbusters movie posterWell it is official, for all you fans of the classic 1980’s comedy Ghostbusters, Sierra Entertainment announced the development of a next-gen action game that is set to be released Fall 2008 on all major platforms. While this might not be the film sequel fan’s had all been hoping for, Sierra Entertainment is certainly banking on this game being the next best thing.

This news will no doubt please a great many fans out there that have been eagerly awaiting the return of the beloved franchise. While there has been a number of previous titles released for the Gameboy, including a short-lived animation series in the mid ‘90s, fans of the original ‘80s film classic will finally get to see the journey of the original cast continue as they try to save New York City from hordes of undead monsters and ghosts.

While few details have been released about the actually plot or even game play, Sierra Entertainment has already stated that the game will be written by the film’s original creators, none other than Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. Terminal Reality, which may be best known for the Bloodrayne series, is developing Ghostbusters for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. On the other end, Red Flag Studios, creators of the upcoming Mushroom Men, will be developing Ghostbusters for PS2, Wii and the DS.

Set circa early 1990s, gamers will get the chance to play out their childhood fantasies of strapping on a proton pack and hunting down all manors of creatures that go bump in the night. Along side players on their heroic venture, the film’s original cast including Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson are all slated to reprise their roles. Other cast favorites will also be making cameos including Annie Potts, Brian Doyle Murray and William Atherton.
