Try Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI before you buy it
Koei has just released a free PC demo of Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI (RTKXI). The full game comes out September 9, 2008, and will only be available through direct download. Originally, RTKXI was scheduled to be released July 29, 2008, but I guess things changed.
Stopping by the Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI site will allow you access to a game trailer, screen shots and the demo. Well, FilePlanet is actually hosting the 280.4MB demo, so the site will direct you there. You have to have a Windows XP or higher PC with DirectX 9.0c…
Browser-based Discarded Online enters open beta
I personally find great joy in browser-based games, because my internet connection is too slow to download anything. So I’m always pleased when I hear about a new title. Game Dozer has announced that it has just started the open beta for Discarded, a free-to-play, browser-based massive multiplayer online game (MMO) that has fighting, rpg and card collecting/using elements to it, yet is also child friendly.
The premise sounds interesting - in Discarded you can constantly customize your character. You can shift around your credits, which help determine your statistics. See, athletic, science and mischief statistics allow you to equip cards which determine your strengths and abilities. If you decide you don’t like what you can do at the moment, you just unequip your cards, shift your credits into new catagories and re-equip. Clothing has no stats, and is just there for customization purposes…

Olympic events in Pi Story and Last Chaos
In honor of the 2008 Olympic Games being held in Beijing, Aeria Games is holding Olympic style events in two of its free massive multiplayer online (MMO) games, Pi Story and Last Chaos. However, while the official Olympic games opening ceremony was today (August 8, 2008), only the Pi Story events begin today. Last Chaos’ Olympic events will begin August 11, 2008.
Both Last Chaos and Pi Story will have special events running during the Olympic period - mainly races or timed events. Players will be able to compete to win gold, silver and bronze medals, prizes and a place in the events’ record books. An end date for the events has not been revealed.
GamesCampus to pay people who don’t like Asda Story $30
The open beta for the free massive multiplayer online rpg (MMORPG) Asda Story starts August 5, 2008, and Gamescampus.com has decided to make things interesting by starting The Guaranteed Fun Promotion on the same day. The Guaranteed Fun Promotion will refund $30 to any player who didn’t enjoy Asda Story.
There are some catches though. You can’t just log in once, then claim you didn’t like it when the 30 days is up. You have to make an account, download the Asda Story client, play for 30 days, raise a character to level 40 by September 4, 2008, and complete a survey telling Gamescampus.com why you didn’t like Asda Story.
Free Xbox Live for certain games for a limited time
There are some free, online multiplayer Xbox 360 games and pigs aren’t flying. What’s going on? A special Microsoft promotion involving multiplayer Xbox 360/Games for Windows titles is what’s going on. In order to promote the joys of online multiplayer, Microsoft is allowing Silver level Xbox Live online play for Lost Planet: Colonies Edition, Shadowrun and Universe at War.
So for a limited time, Xbox 360 owners will be able to actually play some online multiplayer games without purchasing a Gold subscription. Microsoft hasn’t announced when this promotion will end, but has clearly stated that it is a limited time deal and will not be permanent.
Mabinogi’s final season of Generation 2 starts tomorrow
The free-to-play massive multiplayer online rpg Mabinogi is going to experience a major update tomorrow (July 30, 2008). Season 4 of Generation 2 (G2S4) is going to begin, and with it will come new additions to the game and a new contest. Most of the new additions, however, seem to be premium shop items, so go pick a Nexon Game Card while you’re out today.
Mabinogi G2S4 is synonymous with three things - spirit weapons, pets and Peaca. A new dungeon will be added into the game, Peaca, and it is supposedly the most challenging one yet. There will also be seven new pets added to the premium shop, among them three new kinds of dogs, a white spider, a cow, a sheep and a pig. Players will also be able to create spirit weapons in the game.
Bring Down the Sky in Mass Effect PC now
The free, PC downloadable content pack for EA and BioWare’s Mass Effect was just released today (July 29, 2008). The dlc package, known as ”Bring Down the Sky” is the first of many and is available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. This news comes on the same day as a new patch announcement, which updates the game to v1.01. The patch is a 34.85 MB download and “Bring Down the Sky” ranges from a 309 MB (English or Spanish) to a 512 MB (German) download.
“Bring Down the Sky” is the same dlc pack that was released for the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect. It adds a new storyline, a new race (Batarians), new music and a new world to the existing game. If you’re downloading the free add-on though, you’ll probably want the v1.01 patch as well, since it addresses some issues the main game may have with downloadable content…
