Apple App Store gaming update for the week of November 24-30, 2008
It’s our second edition of the App Store gaming update! This week wasn’t as bad to put together as last week’s, though the insane amounts of turkey didn’t help things.
In this edition of the update we added two new sections entitled: “What’s Free” and “Games you might like”. I won’t bother explaining to you the complex definitions of these sections, as I’m sure you folks can figure them out. Since we are still in beta, we can tinker around with the list week to week to find just the right format for you guys. As always, feedback is appreciated so feel free to let us know how much you love the list or heaven forbid, hate it!
We also hope to provide reviews for these games at some point so look out for those as well! Now, on to the list…

Lucky Europeans get LocoRoco 2 Flash minigame
If you’re a LocoRoco fan, you don’t have to head to the PlayStation Store to sample a demo of LocoRoco 2‘s gameplay. Instead, you can visit Spil Games’ Games.co.uk site to play a Flash LocoRoco 2 minigame. It isn’t up for very long though. When LocoRoco 2 for the PSP comes out on November 21, 2008 in Europe, the Flash minigame will be removed from Spil Games’ site.
Its fairly simple to play. You use the left and right arrow keys on your computer to control the actions, like the shoulder buttons you use for the original LocoRoco and LocoRoco 2 games. There are six different levels to play, and the goal in each level is to make flowers bloom by rolling over a wilted flower with the proper color LocoRoco…
Nexon and 7-Eleven team up for “Where You Play for Free” Slurpee campaign (update)
Okay Nexon fans, head over to 7-Eleven during your lunch break or after work. Why? They’ve teamed up with the mini-mart chain to offer special Nexon game Slurpee cups and Nexon game DVDs during the “Where You Play for FREE” campaign. If you get a 22 oz Slurpee in a Nexon Slurpee cup, you’ll be able to get a virtual prize code, that you can redeem for perks or privileges in Combat Arms, Mabinogi, MapleStory or Sugar Rush. (Sorry Audition fans.) The promotion lasts while supplies last.
The best virtual prize is has to be the spot in the closed Sugar Rush beta. (You also get three virtual 7-Eleven items for your characters if you choose that prize. The Combat Arms prize comes with a 7-Eleven hat and a supply case with a free weapon. MapleStory players can choose a 90 minute 7-Eleven double experience point card as their gift. Mabinogi users may get the cutest in-game items - 20 Slurpees for your avatar to enjoy…
The slightly inappropriate Old Man Game demo drops
Paul Davis, independent game developer, has just released a free PC demo of his sidescrolling action title The Old Man Game. It features a silly background story, incredibly detailed character sprites, seven levels to explore and a compact download (3.6mb). Did I mention it is free? Okay, good. It sounds a little like Metal Slug to me, since the old man has to save female hostages while also journeying through CORP LAB to take down Dr. Butt-head and his troops.
An interesting bit of background surrounds The Old Man Game. It was originally a GameBoy Advance homebrew demo. In fact, the official The Old Man Game site has a page devoted to the original GBA version of the game, and even has a download link in case people want to try playing it on an emulator…
Dell’s November 2008 catalog features XPS 630 gaming rigs and Nintendo games (!?)

While in a scantastic mood, looking for holiday deals in various mailings, I noticed something rather curious in the November Dell catalog I received in the mail. It includes a page of video games. And not PC games.
Yes, Dell, the company known for making laptops, desktop computers, monitors, printers and PC accessories (at least, that’s what the title bar of the company’s web site reads), has an entire page dedicated to Nintendo games…
Target’s $50 digital camera gift card

When I shop at Target, the first place I now look is the gift card rack.
After the Speed Racer USB thumb drive gift card and the three cool game console cards, can you really blame me? Snagging freebies in the form of fat, plastic cards is my idea of good time inexpensive collecting fun.
This year’s special holiday gift card at Target is a mini digital camera. Yep, a gift card that doubles as a pocket-sized digital camera. Unlike previous cool cards, this one ain’t free. It’s a $50 card, so you have to…
Konami launching Commemorative Campaign (read: free stuff) for Metal Gear Online

Been playing some Metal Gear Online lately? Probably not but if you do have an account you might want to log in November 25, 2008, through December 9, 2008, as Konami will be giving all players who log into their Metal Gear Online accounts 10,000 reward points that they can use to spruce up those dusty characters at in the game’s shop.
It’s just one part of Konami’s “Commemorative Campaign” for its online war game, which is a celebration of achieving over one million members. The catch is that the points won’t be awarded until after December 9, 2008.
Part two of the campaign involves…
Gaia announces public open beta launch of new MMO, zOMG!
Just got word from Kate Pietrelli of TriplePoint that the company is going to announce the public Open Beta launch of their new MMO zOMG! today (November 6, 2008.)

Gears of War 2 + Circuit City = $20 in Free Microsoft Points

Now that the second Gears of War adventure has garnered stellar reviews, it is a foregone conclusion that gamers will do whatever is necessary to obtain a copy, if only so they can figure out who is the best player among them. Of course, it’s not always easy to know the best place to acquire a game.
While Circuit City may be on the decline, they have still found a way to make themselves relevant in the gaming market. According to 1UP, gamers who preorder the game will receive a free 1600 Microsoft Point card…
