Opinion: Forbes comparing Apples to oranges with iPhone replacing DS theory
I’m not sure what is going on, but according to Forbes reporter Brian Caulfield, that Apple products may kill the Nintendo DS with applications that may turn cellular phones into a portable gaming system.
Caulfield wrote:
“Unlike Nintendo, which has created a gaming console with a motion-sensitive controller and a touch-sensitive handheld gaming system, Apple has crammed both capabilities into its iPhone and iPod Touch… The ability to pour fresh software into the iPhone, wirelessly, at the touch of a button already has game developers interested. ... The worst sign: Sophisticated games such as Electronic Arts’ ambitious new god-game, Spore, are already slated to be released for the iPhone at the same time it goes on sale for PCs, Macs and the Nintendo DS. ... Looks like the handheld gaming business, so long dominated by Nintendo, could be about to undergo a little evolution too.“
The iPhone could never replace a good old fashion handheld gaming system like the Nintendo DS…
Tom Clancy game name now belongs to Ubisoft
They say that everyone has their price, well apparently Tom Clancy has found his, as he has signed away not just his entire universe that is based around his international hit books, but even his own name. And who did he sell out to? Well the French of all people.
Ubisoft announced March 20, 2008, that it has acquired all intellectual properties (IP) centered on and around the entire Tom Clancy universe. Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment (a subsidiary of Ubisoft), created by Tom Clancy back in 1996, have had a long-standing relationship when it comes to the development of video games based around the…
Forbes’ Most Desired Videogames Of 2007

According to a recent article on Forbes.com, the videogame industry netted an impressive $40 billion in hardware and software sales worldwide in 2007. Looking at the numbers breakdown, it seems that games released as part of established franchises dominated (citing Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and Madden NFL 08), along with games aimed at children, the first person shooter genre, and the duel success of Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3. Activision was also named a big winner, with the aformentioned GH III and COD4 and the Activision Blizzard merger.
The article also notes Microsoft’s difficulties - especially the “red ring of death” fiasco (wherein many an Xbox 360 malfunctioned), former Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Peter Moore’s resignation, and the loss of Bungie studios (Halo).
Finally, ending on a anticipatory note, the piece ends with a list of most-wanted games for 2008, including Grand Theft Auto IV, Gears of War 2, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart, and Spore.
I couldn’t help but notice a lack of hotly anticipated games for the PS3, which surely include LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear Solid 4. Otherwise, its a nice wrap-up of the year, complete with all the sales figures you could shake a stick at.

Forbes’ declares Nvidia company of the year
![]()
Nvidia was founded in 1993 by Jen-Hsun Huang, Christopher Malchowsky and Curtis Priem, with the aim of breathing life into the visually-restricted games of that day with their graphic cards. It was not smooth sailing for the company from the word go, as it had to contend with the failure of several of its products and its competitors, who were ahead. It eventually triumphed upon both and now the victory has been recognized by Forbes, which has declared Nvidia the company of the year.
The GPU manufactured has made substantial gains in 2007, as the year saw the company’s market share rise to 62% from the 57%. According to estimations, Nvidia might finish the current fiscal year with $4 billion in earnings and $900 million in profits. The company is also aware of the fact that its competitors ATI and Intel are not going to relent and doesn’t plan to rest on its laurels. It is even mulling expanding its business, which could see it take its technology outside the realm of video games.
