Advice for the romantically challenged gamer

by Lucy Newman on Mar 10, 2008 at 08:49 AM

romantically challenged gamer seeks soulmate
I recently read this article on The New York Times online about how to date a video gamer. It was interesting because I never thought anyone needed a strategy to date a gamer in general. In fact, I’ve known a few non-gaming friends who swallowed their pride and learned to game just to save their own marriage. But as I read this article, it was interesting to see how this couple, Miho Walsh and Roy Prieb, learned to get along and make their marriage work. Now that’s amore!

“She was staring into her screen, and I was staring into my screen,” Prieb told the New York Times reporter.

She knew what had to be done to keep her main squeeze happy. According to the story, Walsh gave Prieb a copy of World of Warcraft for his 32nd birthday and their lives were enhanced through gaming.

Dating site says console preference reflects your dating ability

by Christian Morlotte on Nov 12, 2007 at 05:55 PM

Xbox_PS3_Wii With the increasing popularity of online dating, many people are focusing their attention on dating sites as a way of finally finding their significant other. Aside from looks, age and what you like to do on your free time, some sites are also focusing on people’s gaming habits. With two thirds of men between 18 and 34 playing videogames (according to Nielsen) it must be important for women out there to look for clues about their prospects based on which gaming console they prefer.

According to experts from Match.com, here is what a gamer’s console tells about him/herself.

If you own a PS3:

”This guy is in the know. He knows the right people, goes to the best restaurants and doesn’t wait in line to get into the club. This guy will be difficult to keep up with, as he is always working. When he’s not, he uses videogames as a chance to unwind and relax.”

Xbox 360 owners:

”These guys tend to like extremely violent, visceral games, as well as the social aspect of connecting with friends online. They may be living out an active and social life through games, because they are a bit on the shy side. Xbox 360 fans tend to make good money and like to spend it. These guys are passionate about gaming and that transfers into the bedroom as well.”

And if you own a Nintendo Wii:

”Wii says he’s a fun guy. The Wii-mote will force him to get up off the couch and actually get a little exercise while he’s playing. Of all of the consoles, the Wii is probably the best date machine, as a lot more of the games appeal to both sexes. Challenge him to a game of tennis or bowling.”

I think it’s amazing how video games have permeated into everyday life. It would be really funny listening to some girl say: “He’s good looking, but I heard he owns a PS3…”. I doubt these experts are even close to being right but, I don’t know, many people really pay attention to what these sites and magazines say. Maybe now guys will not only alter the images on their profile to look like a model, but they will also Photoshop their console to look like a Wii.
