Dream Cheeky’s USB Mini Controller with detachable micro steering wheel

by Mark Rollins on Aug 28, 2008 at 08:02 AM

Dream Cheeky USB Mini Controller
It appears that I’ve got a fetish for Dream Cheeky products this week.  Before it was the USB Metal Game Pad, now it is the USB Mini Controller.

I honestly don’t know how anyone could not be attracted to this new controller with its tiny detachable steering wheel.  I’m guessing there are a…

All you air guitarists can continue to pamper your musical dreams and fantasies in grand style as Activision has heralded the Guitar Hero game. The game titled Guitar Hero World Tour was announced on May 22, 2008, in a press release and it will come stuffed to the hilt with several new additions.

The release heavily plugs revamped guitar among other additions but it drops a bombshell with the promise of downloadable content (DLC) for the Wii version of the Guitar Hero World Tour.

Microsoft won’t comment on motion-sensitive controllers

by Pulkit Chandna on Jan 3, 2008 at 11:30 AM

360 controllerThe Wii might be radically different but there is something that separates Xbox 360 from the other two consoles - the lack of any motion-sensing capability in its controllers. There are, however, some titillating rumors that Microsoft might just spruce-up the 360 controllers with all new motion-sensing capabilities.

The rumor comes from a fledgling website, Xbox Family, which hasn’t bothered to cite any sources. According to the website, Microsoft has contracted Saratoga-based firm Gyration to develop this new controller. It is the same company which had provided Nintendo with Wii-mote prototype designs that were politely turned down by the Big N. Microsoft might have decided to exploit Gyration’s expertise in motion-sensitive controllers, if it indeed harbors any gyrating-controller dreams.

However, a Microsoft rep expectedly told Next-Gen that the company doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation, when queried about the issue.

Don’t worry, Microsoft hasn’t dismissed the new motion-sensitive controller but just declined to comment. Such a controller is not really a bad idea and Microsoft should look to reinvent the Xbox 360 gaming experience as often as it can, so as to elongate its life cycle.

Using your brain in games might be bad for you

by Christian Morlotte on Sep 6, 2007 at 03:51 PM

Although Sixaxis or the WiiMote may seem like the latest trend in game controllers, scientists are researching what would seem like the ultimate controller: the human brain. Researchers have been studying BCIs or brain-computer interfaces as a way for people with disabilities to interact with their environment through a computer. By measuring the electrical activity in the brain, sensors attached to the head can amplify the signals and input the information into a computer where it gets translated into commands that can control a game or move stuff, like a robot arm or a wheelchair.

Playstation Eye more powerful than a leaping WiiMote

by Pulkit Chandna on Aug 27, 2007 at 03:12 PM

New Eye Toy for the PS3

Sony reps are hard selling the Playstation Eye (successor of the Eye Toy) for the PS3 as the new, ultimate casual gaming device, claiming the add-on device has more motion-sensing potential than the Wii controllers (and they might have a point).

The Playstation Eye will be bundled with The Eye of Judgement card game in Japan that releases on October 25, 2007. Its U.S and European launch is expected to coincide with the release of the game SingStar there. However, there has been no word on the price of this add-on camera.

The Eye of Judgement is a card game with a 3x3 board and 9 blocks for placing cards. The Playstation Eye’s keen eye would recognize the cards and replicate the game on screen with surreal monsters and their magical abilities.

Gamertell McFarlane Halo 3 Action Figure Master Chief Prototype McFarlane Toys, makers of Spawn, sports and military actions figures will add Halo 3 to its already impressive lineup.

Known for ultra-realistic and inexpensive action figures, McFarlane plans to offer six figures, five sold individually and a grunt 2-pack, and three vehicles based on the video game franchise.
