The “E for All loves Threadless” contest

by Danielle Riendeau on Sep 5, 2007 at 09:41 PM

E for All loves threadless
Feeling creative? New videogame expo E for All is teaming up with threadless.com to create the “E for All loves threadless” t-shirt design competition. The theme is E for All’s motto “power up and play”, and the winner receives $2000, a trip the first ever E for All expo, a Nintendo Wii, and other fabulous prizes (like E for All swag and a threadless gift certificate).

Graphic designers take note: “The purpose of this competition is to create a stand-alone design inspired by the theme, not a brand tee. Your design should not have the brand name or logo on it.” The deadline runs through October 1, 2007, so there’s plenty of time to get your image ready.

E for All takes place October 18-21 at the LA convention center, and is set to include a Video Games Live concert, the Into the Pixel art exhibit, the World Series of Video Games competition, a game developer conference, and even a game careers seminar, among all the exhibits from game developers (not Sony or Microsoft, unfortunately).

Sony announces Folklore create-a-creature contest

by Danielle Riendeau on Aug 12, 2007 at 02:12 PM

Folklore

Sony has announced a contest to create a character for the upcoming PS3 action-adventure title Folklore. Interested parties need to create an illustration and description of their fantasy-themed “folk” along with how it can be captured.

Folklore is set to come out in October 2007 for the PS3, and is built around a folk-capturing mechanic: Players journey around the Netherworld, capturing creatures and gaining their unique abilities. The game features more than 100 kinds of critters that can be collected and used – it’s a bit “gotta catch em all”, but the art style and overall gameplay are quite distinctive.

The winner of the contest will have his/her character added to the game (albeit as part of a downloadable game pack), and will receive a copy of the game and a limited edition World of Folklore art book. Four runners-up winners will receive a copy of the PS3 game and the book. Submissions will be taken from now until August 31, 2007, so get those creative juices flowing.

Betson and FHM announce Big Buck Hunter Pro contest

by Danielle Riendeau on Jul 21, 2007 at 02:28 PM

Big Buck Hunter Pro
In one of the most meta announcements of late, FHM and Betson enterprises (makers of Big Buck Hunter Pro arcade game), are holding a contest for fans to hunt down BBHP machines in order to win one. Participants seek out BBHP machines (hint: look in the back room of every bar you can find), take their picture next to the unit, and post the picture (along with the location address) on the contest’s website. Each valid entry enters you into the sweepstakes to win an arcade unit of the game, valued at $6,000.

The game itself is a popular hunting simulation, and a huge moneymaker for neighborhood bars and arcades. Players take the attached rifle peripheral and hunt down deer, elk, antelope, big horn sheep and moose in various woodland settings.

Already, some of the world’s most awesomely bad hunting poses are available for your entertainment on the contest site. I’m sure the eventual winner will be very proud of his catch. All joking aside, it’s actually kind of a cool idea and a fun use of Google maps.

Before this starts sounding like anything other than an elaborate advertising scheme, be aware - all game ideas have to be Doritos themed.
