In Iowa, a 32-year-old man may spend 20 years in prison for possession of Japanese manga and will face penalties under the PROTECT Act (18 U.S.C. Section 1466A). Christopher Handley is still in big trouble because of the manga he purchased from Japan in May 2006 that the government claimed was obscene and depicted minors engaged in sexual acts.

As if the hand of Dan DeCarlo was guiding me from the grave, I recently came across another potentially prophetic message coming from Archie Comics.

This instance is in an issue of Betty and Veronica Digest Magazine (no. 125,  Jan. 2002) with a story titled “Game Gambit“ featuring fictional game maker Zapco Games. The company has asked Betty, the blonde-next-door and sometimes gender-bending teenager, to help test a series of arcade games targeted towards girls.

As one of the Gamertell writers recently pointed out in an email, “Is it just me, or does September seem like the month of feminine games?“ Indeed, it appears that way with a slew of demographically-targeted games being released throughout September 2008…

The Square Enix Members site has a pretty big update filled with The World Ends with You goodness. Parts 2 and 3 of the Creator’s Roundtable are both up, there’s an In-Store video of the title and the first chapter of the The World Ends with You manga by Shiro Amano. The best part of the update is the comic, because by clicking on certain colored comic panels, you can unlock ringtones of songs from the game.
