Use a CueCat scanner with Collectorz’s Game Collector software
Back in 2000, Radio Shack (and Digital Convergence) gave away free barcode scanners called the CueCat (aka:CueCat) that connected to your computer. You’d use it to scan stuff and then it would open a web page based on whatever you scanned. It was a nice idea that simply flopped.
A lot of those little scanners are still around (heck, I have three) and operational so, naturally, people want to use the cute little scanners with more modern applications including home collection software made by Collectorz. Particularly, gamers can use a barcode scanner to scan their collection of video games for a complete and easy-to-browse catalog using Game Collector.
Although Collectorz sells that and…
Nintendo offering two limited edition DS bundles for Black Friday 2008
I bet many of you have this vision of Nintendo sitting back eating some mystical golden cash turkey and spending Black Friday sleeping of massive amounts of tryptophan (the stuff that makes you sleepy after eating turkey) on mattresses stuffed with cash, dreaming about the holiday shopper circus frenzy in retailers across the country. Well, you’re probably right especially since Nintendo is offering up two new limited edition DS bundles for which shoppers will have to compete for in some form of death ring.
The first of the bundles will be offering up a fully crimson red painted DS with a Mario M logo stomped on the system’s top cover. It will also come bundled with a copy of New Super Mario Bros., a game which I watched go out of stock more than any other DS game…
Sam’s Club’s 2008 Black Friday ad possibly “doctored”
This past week several sites, including Gamertell, reported that Sam’s Club was offering a rather incredible Wii bundle deal for Black Friday (November 28, 2008, aka the day after Thanksgiving). Unfortunately, the price indicated in the scan of the print ad was incorrect.
According to a cease and desist request sent by Baker Hostetler LLP to Gamertell and many other outlets, the following line was requested to replace the image:
“The Sam’s Club advertisement included unauthorized changes that reflected inaccurate pricing information.“
A representative from Baker Hostetler indicated to Gamertell’s parent company, Dabbledoo Media, that…
PSP-3000 now available, bundled with Ratchet & Clank game

The PSP-3000 is the latest iteration of Sony’s handheld Playstation Portable game console. It follows the PSP-2000 and features a shiny silver body, improved screen with “anti-reflection technology” for improved usage in natural light, and a built-in microphone compatible with multiplayer games and Skype.
Sony announced via press release today (October 15, 2008) that the PSP-3000 is now available for purchase from retailers across North America. As an additional incentive for consumers to pick up the new model, a family-friendly bundle that includes…
Sony releases a Lego Batman PS2 bundle. Or is it a BatBundle?
The PS2 refuses to back down in the midst of its graphically superior successors. Many game companies are still bringing out an ample amount of PS2 titles for the remainder of 2008 including a new bundle for the just released title LEGO Batman: The Video Game.
This limited edition bundle is selling for $150 and will include the slim PS2 console, LEGO Batman: The Video Game, DUALSHOCK 2 controller, and Justice League: The New Frontier on DVD. This bundle can be found at retail or online but don’t debate the virtue of bundles for too long since there aren’t too many of these to go around.
While we’re on the topic of Sony products refusing to fade away, why not check out some UMD movies we all know and love?

Nintendo brings Dialga and Palkia DS to the US
Japan isn’t the only country receiving exceptionally pretty, limited run DSes. Nintendo has just announced that, on August 17, 2008, a Limited Edition DS Pokemon Pack will be available in stores. The pack includes an etched, black DS lite and additional Pokemon items for $129.99.
The selling point of the package is the black DS lite with pictures Dialga and Palkia, two legendary pokemon from Pokemon Diamond/Pearl etched on the front of it. It also comes with a matching DS lite case that has the same design on the cover, a mini poster and a DVD with an animated movie called Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness. Nintendo has declared the bundle a limited edition, but there is no word on how many units are being produced or how long it will be sold.

Nintendo dislikes Wii bundles
![]()
The year 2007 began with a Wii-drought and even towards the end of the year, the videogame world is abuzz with talk of the perpetual Wii shortage and its impact. Analysts and well-read gamers are chipping in with their opinions on how the shortage can hurt Nintendo. However, there is another issue with the Wii that might need Nintendo’s attention, and that is retailers inventing their own Wii bundles.
Many retailers are bundling the Wii console with games and accessories of their choice, which means that the buyer is forced to shell out more money even if he doesn’t desire the accompanying games or accessories. In this manner, some retailers are taking undue advantage of the gamers’ desperation when it comes to buying a Wii. Apparently, Nintendo isn’t too appreciative of such a practice.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, told Reuters that Nintendo had informed the retailers that it wasn’t a fan of these Wii bundles. According to him, these bundles are robbing the Wii of its price advantage. Although Nintendo might not like it, there is little it can do to prevent the retailers from selling these Wii bundles.
