Mid-Ohio-Con 2008: Comics, games, Hulk, Jay and the Batmobile
After getting shut down, resurrected by new owners, moved to a new venue and taking place two month earlier than normal, the Mid-Ohio-Con (aka MOC) was this past weekend (October 4-5, 2008) at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH (USA). The convention is typically a showcase for Ohio area comic book artists and stores with a smattering of additional celebrity guests and other goodies.
There were two videogame booths a the MOC, one for Ninja Gaiden and the other was promoting Soul Calibur IV. There were a few celebrities, several big-name comic artists, the Batmobile and costumes aplenty…
Dark Knight coming to home video December 9, 2008
While I’m in a BatMood, Waner Home Video today (September 26, 2008) announced that Dark Knight will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 9, 2008.
Since Dark Knight was partially shot using IMAX cameras, the Blu-Ray release will include IMAX and regular ol’ HD footage. Warner is going whole hog with the Blu-Ray and including BD-Live features which, according to the press release, “allows users with web-enabled Blu-ray players to access exciting additional content and connect and share with other BD-Live users...”
Lego Batman Happy Meal toys promote cheating in videogames
For those of you who indulge in the delicacies of fatty snacks that come in a colorful box and an accompanying toy, the recent McDonald’s Happy Meals are promoting Lego Batman and a game code has been stamped on the bottom of each toy.
There are eight toys in the set including four vehicles and four characters. Each game code unlocks playable characters so you don’t have to wait until later in the game to cash in precious and readily available Lego pegs for the same character.
I don’t usually do this but, since GoNintendo has already started the sharing, I’ll offer up two more codes…
The original BatCopter at the 2008 Ohio State Fair
Yeah, I got to see the BatPod and the BatCopter only a few weeks apart. In Ohio (USA), even. What’s the deal with that? The planets must be in some strange alignment.
The helicopter is sans bat wings but it has been painstakingly restored to its original condition so the owner could make a small fortune giving people the opportunity to sit in it for 2-3 minutes. Paying customers would be ready at the gate and, as soon as the copter landed, rushed over to get seated while the previous passengers rushed out. With such a quick turnaround it was about…
Alfred to serve some pain in Lego Batman: The Video Game
Along with Robin, Batman will enlist the aid of Batgirl and his trusty butler Alfred. Yes you read that correctly, Alfred will be a playable character in Lego Batman: The Video Game.
Let’s face it, we usually look at Alfred as being Batman’s father figure. He gets tea, irons cloths and is one of the only people Batman trusts with his secret identity. However, Alfred is tougher than some of us may think. Alfred used to be an
Gamertell Review: Birds of Prey The Complete Series on DVD

Title: Birds of Prey: The Complete Series
Price: $29.95
Release Date: July 15, 2008
Publisher: Warner Bros. Television
Rating: Not Rated
Pros: The transfer is perfect and the addition of the entire web series, Gotham Girls, is terrific. A bit more palatable than when it originally aired thanks to Smallville.
Cons: The series remains as fault-filed as ever with some weak performances and some cheesy special effects.
Overall Score: One thumb up, one thumb sideways; 80/100; B-; * * * out of five.
With the recent resurgence of Bat-Mania thanks to the gritty and good Dark Knight movie, it’s a little surprising that Birds of Prey DVD release didn’t get a little more attention. Sure, the series didn’t quite make a full season but the relation to the Caped Crusader is unmistakable.

Lego Batman gets a little girl power from Batgirl
Today (August 19, 2008) Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed the latest “good guy” in the upcoming Lego Batman game: Batgirl. According to the company press release, she has a “unique style of justice” as a crime fighter alongside Batman and Robin (though she’s not really a part of the boy’s club, pity). She’s also secretly Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, and can use all of Batman’s funky suits.
So, does anyone think the Lego Batman game will pick up sales from where EA dropped the ball on the canned Dark Knight game? I’m sure we’ll find out this fall. The game ships for just about every imaginable platform on September 23, 2008.

Dark Knight Game axed, EA missed a golden opportunity
It would appear that EA seriously dropped the ball on the canned The Dark Knight game, according to GameDaily. A videogame adaptation of the ultra-smash hit was reportedly in the works, but it got axed due to “quality concerns, the controversy surrounding star Heath Ledger’s death, and less than optimistic sales projections” ouch.
