Who you gonna call - Atari to publish Ghostbusters

Good news for fans looking to bust some ghosts in the near future - the impressive looking Ghostbusters: The Video Game has been brought out of development limbo. One of the most famous casualties of the Activision-Blizzard merger, Ghostbusters was homeless until this morning, when it was announced that Atari (of all companies) will pick up the game and distribute it in 2009. The game is set to roughly coincide with the possible (and oft-rumored) next film in the franchise - officially, with the original film’s 25th anniversary - and it was written by original Ghostbusters actors/writers Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena will hit in Spring 2009
Riddick, the six-foot-tall Furyan with glowing eyes, will be placed in gamers’ collective hands once again come Spring 2009, thanks to Atari. The publisher announced this week (October 30, 2008) that it will be handling publishing duties for Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
Currently in development at Starbreeze Studios and Tigon Studios, Assault on Dark Athena had previously been pegged as a remake of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay with some bonus content thrown in for good measure. However, Atari has now confirmed that, while this is still true, the game will also include a brand new full-length campaign as well.
As if that weren’t enough…
Hello Kitty’s Big City Dreams are golden
We all know Hello Kitty’s a star, but who ever thought that her Animal Crossing-esque DS adventure would find such success. Empire Interactive and Atari have just announced that Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams, coming to the DS on November 11, 2008, has gone gold. A lot of Sanrio fans must be very happy.
Previous Hello Kitty games released in the US have had a strong focus on mini-games. While Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams also has quite a wide variety of mini-games, it also is a little life simulation, where you help Hello Kitty make a life for herself in the city. You play mini-games to earn money, which lets you travel around the city, buy new furniture for her apartment and pay for new clothing. You also have to make friends with other Sanrio characters, like My Melody, Chococat, Keroppi and TuxedoSam…
Alone in the Dark gets heated up for PS3 release
While Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, and PC Alone in the Dark fans have all been enjoying the latest entry in the series since June 2008, it’ll finally be time for PlayStation 3 owners to get their scare on.
The already delayed PS3 version of the newest chapter in the Alone in the Dark series has received quite a few of improvements and has been given its own subtitle: Alone in the Dark: Inferno.
While storyline bits remain unchanged, Eden Games has promised a wealth of gameplay improvements based on the criticisms of the previous versions. These new improvements include…
Look who’s still making games for the PS2
While many gamers may have jumped ship to the comfort of the cell microprocessors that power the Playstation 3, the accrual of Playstation 2 titles have yet to come to a complete halt. The pickings may be slim but many developers, such as Atlus, continue to show faith in this 8-year-old console by releasing highly anticipated titles exclusively for the Playsation 2. Other developers, like Electronic Arts, show their support by continuing to develop Playstation 2 versions of popular multi-platform games.

E3 enhanced by The Witcher Enhanced edition

We all knew that an enhanced version of the PC game The Witcher was coming, but we weren’t sure if Atari was going to be showcasing it at E3. Now, we know for sure, as a new press release with additional information has been released. As you may (or may not) know, The Witcher was originally released in October, 2007 to critical aclaim, and a revision was planned to improve issues in the original and the game in general. The remake will be out September, 2008.
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is going to be quite a package. The game tweaks mean that, along with 5,000 dialogue lines rewritten and rerecorded, there will also be 200 new dialogue animations for characters. Also NPCs will be more varied, the inventory system will be improved (the alchemy use will be better), the load times will be decreased and the combat system has been improved.
Atari tells DS users they’ll be cooking with the Naked Chef
Cooking Mama frustrated quite a few people because it provided fun dishes to make, but never told exactly how they were created. Apparently Atari decided that it needed to remedy that situation, and it has - with the help of The Naked Chef Jamie Oliver. At E3 the company announced the forthcoming DS “game”, What’s Cooking? with Jamie Oliver. It will be available Winter 2008.
What’s Cooking? with Jamie Oliver is more like an educational program, with some occasional mini-games tossed in. There are 100 of Jamie Oliver’s recipes included in the game, with pictures of each one, voice recognition so you can find out what is next without having to touch the DS with dirty hands, a built in shopping list, cooking mini-games, the ability to put 100 of your own recipes in the game and the ability to share your personal recipes with others over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
