Amazon offers RPG bargain buys in honor of Cyber Monday 2008

by Janine Dong on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:28 PM

online bargain binAmazon is doing a great job of turning me into an every day lurker because it just keeps surprising me with its unbelievable deals on video games. In what I assume is an ode to Cyber Monday, Amazon is currently offering some great role-playing games (including brand new releases and pre-roders) at rock-bottom prices. This means that in addition to taking advantage of these thrifty sales tags, shoppers will also save on sales tax and receive free shipping so long as the order totals $25 or more.

It’s hard to say how long these prices will stay up, so you had better act fast and take advantage of these bargain bin finds. It looks like RPG fans will be able to stuff themselves full of something else besides just turkey this holiday season…

Amazon’s Thanksgiving weekend, Cyber Monday 2008 game deals

by Jeremy Hill on Nov 30, 2008 at 01:16 PM

cyber mondayBy now we’ve licked our wounds and recovered from the madness that’s known as Black Friday. Even though waiting in long lines in blustery cold weather is over, deals on games are still running strong.

Amazon still has some pretty amazing deals that will last until Monday (December 1, 2008). For example, how would you like to own Far Cry 2 for $17.95 or Infinite Undiscovery for $18.95? Say what you will about some reviews but these games are certainly worth one Andrew Jackson. There are steals like these spread out across all consoles and this list will cover some of the most notable. Most of these games are eligible for free shipping if your total purchase exceeds $25. These bargains won’t be around for much longer so get to it…

by Jenni Lada on Nov 25, 2008 at 02:18 PM

Personal Trainer: CookingAs you probably know, if you’ve been following along with Gamertell’s Black Friday 2008 coverage, Amazon has been doing a countdown to Black Friday 2008 in its video games section. Each day, there’s a different deal going on. Today’s (November 25, 2008) is sort of a “make your own DS bundle” day. If you buy the limited edition pink breast cancer ribbon DS or metallic silver DS for $129.99, you can get a free copy of Personal Trainer: Cooking. So you save $20.

Personal Trainer: Cooking is a Touch Generations DS game which is basically a virtual cookbook. The game will talk to you, it has video demonstrations, it can be navigated with voice commands and it keeps a shopping list of ingredients to buy…

Deal of the Day: Buy 2 select games at Amazon and get $25, buy 3 and get $50

by Jenni Lada on Nov 19, 2008 at 01:15 PM

Amazon logoIn order to get buyers hyped up about Black Friday 2008, Amazon is holding special sales in the video games section leading up to the day. Today (November 19, 2008), the deal offers credits on future Amazon video game purchases when you buy two or three PC, PS3, Wii and/or Xbox 360 games directly from Amazon.

The deal is pretty simple. You select the boxes on the games you want. Once you’ve chosen two or three games, you click the “Add to Cart” button and make your purchase. If you buy two games, you will get a $25 credit on a future Amazon direct game purchase. If you buy three games, you get a $50 credit. You can only take Amazon up on this offer only once, and you can only buy one copy of each game you select.

The 20 titles offered (and their prices) aren’t exactly bargain bin cheap. Some are slightly discounted, but others are still full price. All of the games are recent releases and quality titles, so at least no shovelware is involved. So, the $25 or $50 credit might make it worthwhile for you.

The titles involved in the deal are…

Atlus releases limited edition Persona 2: Eternal Punishment reprint

by Jenni Lada on Nov 13, 2008 at 02:22 PM

Persona 2 Eternal PunishmentThis is certainly unexpected - Atlus is rereleasing Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the second Persona game released in the US. It isn’t some huge remake project though. Instead, Atlus is issuing a reprint of the PlayStation game and selling it directly through Amazon.

The reprint is exactly like the original Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, so if you always wanted to try the earlier Persona game, which was known for its rarity, you can experience the same game all the original fans did. There is also a special incentive to buy it - it comes with a extra disc that includes a Persona 2 anime trailer and an interview with the Persona 2 creators. Persona 3 fans may want to take this opportunity to see how the series got its start…

Indie game developer, distributor Reflexive acquired by Amazon

by Karn Bianco on Oct 23, 2008 at 02:40 PM

Reflexive LogoReflexive Entertainment, an independent game developer and the company responsible for the Reflexive Arcade — a casual game download portal located at (Reflexive.com), has been acquired by Amazon.com. Reflexive CEO Lars Brubaker made the announcement on his official company blog earlier this week (October 20, 2008).

Reflexive was originally founded in 1997 with the simple aim to “make great games.” Since then, it has released fifteen of its own independent titles in addition to distributing a slew of additional casual games via the Reflexive Arcade, which launched in 2003 alongside Crimsonland.

Amazon offers Rune Factory 2 squirrel preorder

by Jenni Lada on Oct 6, 2008 at 11:16 AM

Rune Factory 2 squirrel chipp preorderOh snap. Amazon is offering an adorable, red stuffed squirrel preorder for Rune Factory 2. Technically, it isn’t a “squirrel.“ It’s a Chipp - a type of monster present in the first Rune Factory and most likely in Rune Factory 2 as well. Chipps were one of the first monsters you’d encounter. Not very menacing, but easily one of the cutest in the game.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise though, as Amazon also offered a stuffed chicken preorder for Natsume’s other recent release, Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness. What is surprising, is that this deal is an Amazon exclusive. Typically, Natsume preorder bonus items are available at most major game retailers, but only Amazon’s offering the extra incentive this time around…

Price Drop: Call of Duty 4 for PS3 $39.99 on Amazon

by Jeremy Hill on Sep 16, 2008 at 12:08 PM

CoD 4 Game of the Year EditionCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2007 and its influence continues to spread over the gaming world. Millions of people have already purchased the game, but for those who have been meaning to, Amazon is selling CoD 4 Game of the Year Edition on PS3 for only $39.99. It is also eligible for free shipping if you don’t mind waiting a few extra days to receive the game.

There are a couple things that are strange about this deal. First off it’s not listed for the new low price after doing a basic search for the game. It’s listed under the Featured Merchants section of Amazon even though you’re getting the game from Amazon in the first place. Secondly, the game is listed as taking 4 to 7 weeks to ship. It seems the game will be delivered in almost two months at the latest. By that time Call of Duty: World at War should be close to its own release date…
