As much as I enjoy my Xbox 360, one of my main criticisms against it is its lack of full backwards compatibility. Considering that I enjoy playing old games as much as new ones, this omission has been disappointing for me.
Their versions of backwards compatibility, only offering functionality for “select” titles and releasing others as “Xbox Originals” have offered me some enjoyment, there are still titles that I wish I had the opportunity to play, including the Otogi series, an under appreciated set of games that should have fared better sales-wise than they did.
Microsoft has announced the latest Xbox game to be part of their “Originals” group, and it is Zapper, a game that features eighteen levels of controlling a cricket that can shoot lightning from his two antennae.
The game costs 1200 Microsoft points and will be available for players to purchase on November 17, 2008.
This news has thus far been met with surprise and cynicism, which is understandable considering that there are other titles that could see inclusion into Xbox Originals group.
This negativity should not dissuade players from purchasing Zapper if they are fans of the product. After all, Microsoft has saved you the time that it usually takes for individuals to get up, get ready and travel to the game store by allowing the opportunity to purchase the game in the comfort of their own home while wearing pajamas.
And who knows? If enough individuals download Zapper, maybe the game will see a sequel on the 360 and/or Playstation 3.
Bob is upset. He just spent 5 years creating a game to be played on the Nintendo DS and Nintendo won’t sell him what he needs to actually market the game. So what is he doing? Sitting in his basement for 100 days to protest…
