You can still be part of the Pokemon Video Game Showdown 2008
The ultimate Pokemon finals are ongoing, and you may have a chance to enter. See, The Pokemon Company and Pokemon USA teamed up to create this super challenge, the Pokemon Video Game Showdown 2008, where 16 US players and 16 Japanese players of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl would duke it out for glory. While the official entry period for players closed, additional players who attend the Qualifier Tournaments.
There are two Qualifier Tournaments being held in the US, and they’re on both coasts. The California Science Center in Los Angeles will be having one on July 12, 2008, and the Altman Building in New York will be having one on July 19, 2008. Both tournaments start at 8am. People will be broken into Junior (born after 1996) and Senior (born before 1995) divisions, and up to 128 alternates from each division will be chosen to participate.
If you’re a good player, it may be worth a try. The 16 winners from each Qualifier (eight from each division) will receive free trips to the finals in Orlando, Florida. The top Junior and Senior winners at each Qualifier will also win Wii prize packs. Plus, the Junior and Senior first place winners of the finals will both receive a six day vacation to New York, New York, Honolulu, Hawaii or Tokyo, Japan.

Interesting, so a person can just bring their DS and Pokemon game and battle a bunch of other people? O_o

on July 6, 2008 at 11:29 PM - LINKPretty much. You had to get there at a certain time and have a wristband to try and register for one of the extra spots.
I kind of hope those Pokemon companies checked the games and teams first. I don’t think they’d allow people with blatantly hacked pokemon (like a Mudkip who knows flamethrower, thunder, psychic with 999 hp) on a team.
