Once one of the most important and popular genres in gaming, the adventure game has seen somewhat of a resurgence in recent years after falling off the face of the planet for about a decade.
Malinche Entertainment, currently the only active publisher of text-based adventure games, is looking to ignite gamers’ nostalgia with the 2008 Adventure Gaming Expo. Lucky adventure game fans in the New Jersey area (or those willing to travel to the garden state) will get the chance to meet-and-greet with some industry legends and bid on some amazing pieces of gaming memorabilia August 29-31, 2008, at The Water Club in Atlantic City. Tickets are on sale now for $99.
“This will be an exciting weekend for every adventure game fan,” organizer Howard Sherman said in a press release. “Meeting the legends who created these classic, timeless adventure games would be reason enough to go, but throw in a charity auction loaded with dozens of rare adventure gaming collectibles, workshops, discussions, and a live-action adventure game, and you end up with a life-changing experience.”
The illustrious panel of guests includes Chris Jones (creator of the Tex Murphy series), Al Lowe (creator of the Leisure Suit Larry series), Scott Murphy (co-creator of the Space Quest series), and many more.
Every attendee will get a chance to meet the special guests as well as listen in on several different workshops and panel discussions.
For those with a little more cash to burn, the expo will also include a charity auction featuring the original Zork game (zip-locked TRS-80 version), background art used in producing Space Quest, autographed games from legendary designer Steve Meretzky, and more.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2’s many imperfections, like laws you might unintentionally break, a flawed recruiting system, recycled characters and new MP system have made me realize I want nothing to do with the game.
