Xbox 360 Memory Upgrade Program offers free memory card, inexpensive hard drive

Ever since Microsoft’s Major Nelson reported that the “New Xbox Experience” would be a 128MB download, owners of the Arcade Xbox 360 have been wondering just how they were going to enjoy the new update. With no hard drive and only so-much space on those memory cards, what’s an Arcade owner to do?
Quick answer: Enroll in the “Xbox 360 Memory Upgrade Program.“
The new program will allow Xbox 360 Core owners to receive free 512MB memory cards or a $20 20GB hard drive. Owners of the Arcade Xbox 360 pack will be able to purchase a 20GB hard drive for $30 and receive 3-months free of Xbox Live. All you’ll need to do is get your serial number and console ID and head over to the registration website to enroll.
For all you Pro (20GB) bundle and Elite (120GB hard drive) owners, you should have plenty of space for the upcoming update and an extra 8MB for the Netflix movie streaming feature. If for some reason your hard drive is full, well, then Microsoft suggests you make some space! Or you could try to enroll too just to see if maybe you can get a hard drive on the cheap.
As of now, there doesn’t seem to be a cut-off date for eligibility, however we expect the deal will last well through the holidays and into the beginning of next year.
While the multiple SKU system may have been a boneheaded move on Microsoft’s part (smart for consumers though eh?), at least they can come to a reasonable storage problem solution.
