Worms to wiggle their way to the Wii in 2008

by Lucy Newman on Aug 31, 2007 at 01:15 PM

Worms coming to the WiiSometime in Spring 2008, Worms: A Space Oddity will infest the Nintendo Wii system. This is the latest incarnation of Team17s turn-based strategy franchise of cute little wiggling worms battling out for some, er, space. In this turn-based strategy game, players can control the fate of worm-kind by using the Wii Remote to plot attacks on six different planets with individual events that will occur during the game.

THQ Inc. promises that the game will have an advanced technical and design advancement over the previous games that players will enjoy. Nothing has been mentioned on Team17 or the Worms official website as to whether or not the game will maintain its 2D look or it will enter the third dimension as it did in Worms 4: Mayhem.

THQ Inc. announced in a recent press release that players will be able to enjoy a blend of the classic Worms game made with newer re-invented single-player missions and the option to play in a multiplayer mode with customization options. The multiplayer mode will allow players and their friends to take control of one of four of the six planets and pit the Worm fiends against each other for world domination and a little fun competition among friends. Other features announced is that the game will take advantage of the Wii control for on-screen hints and a redesigned interface with an in-game help system.

Team17 and THQ Inc., have also announced two additional games in the Worm series to be released Fall 2007: Worms: Open Warfare 2 for the Nintendo DS and PSP and Worms 2007 for wireless handsets.
