Wired publisher acquires tech site Ars Technica

Ars Technica
According to an Associated Press report, Conde Naste publications (the company behind Wired) has just acquired Ars Technica (the technology, media and entertainment site oft-linked by Gamertell). The site will continue to run independently under editor-in-chief Ken Fisher and will be combined with Wired’s online operations.

According to the report, Conde Nast will also be reviving Wired-related Webmonkey.com and HotWired.com.

EIC Ken Fisher wrote up the details of the acquisition (and what this will mean for loyal readers) in a very heartfelt post dated May 19, 2008.
From the post:

“The editorial leadership remains the same. As part of the deal, we still call the editorial shots.
We’re opening offices, we’re bringing on more staff, and we’re steering that entire process.
Condé Nast/WIRED Digital didn’t want Ars Technica unless we would stick around to see it explode into something even bigger.
We have notebooks full of ideas for Ars Technica from over the years, and I’m pleased to say that we’ve already begun working on some of the best ideas.”

It sounds like this is a great thing for the growth of the site, and Fisher is adamant that things will only get better for readers.
