Wii finds use in hospital rehabs
![]()
A recent British study might have debunked the Wii as a fitness machine, but there are still others who have ample amount of faith in the system’s fitness prowess. Now many hospitals have resorted to the Wii in an effort to make the usually mundane rehabilitation process a lot more fun.
Among the slew of hospitals that have roped in the Wii for their rehab programs is Mercy Fairfield hospital in Cincinnati. The hospitals director of clinical support services, Craig Schmidt, told the The Enquirer that he expected the Wii to be a staple of their rehab program. He stressed upon the fun and competitive spirit of a Wii-centric rehab program and, on the lighter side, even narrated the difficulty he had in purchasing the Wii for the hospital - he stood in a line for several hours just to buy the elusive Wii at the $249 price-point.
This kind of rehab is being used mainly for patients who have recovered from a stroke or just had their joints replaced. In fact, the The Enquirer reports that a three week study at the Drake Center found that two stroke survivors had regained a lot of their shoulder and elbow movement after playing the Wii.

Wii is the funest rehab system, if I was in drug rehab or any other kind of rehab, I’d love to get the Wii treatment

The console system appears to have endless uses and I expected will be the most popular console for at least the next 10 years. Video games are evolving from something only grumpy teenagers can sit in his room and play into something that’s fun and easy to get into for everyone :)
