Good news for fans looking to bust some ghosts in the near future - the impressive looking Ghostbusters: The Video Game has been brought out of development limbo. One of the most famous casualties of the Activision-Blizzard merger, Ghostbusters was homeless until this morning, when it was announced that Atari (of all companies) will pick up the game and distribute it in 2009. The game is set to roughly coincide with the possible (and oft-rumored) next film in the franchise - officially, with the original film’s 25th anniversary - and it was written by original Ghostbusters actors/writers Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.
The best part? All of the original talent (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson) are all in on the project, and the new storyline is set two years after the last film - Ghostbusters 2. The title is reportedly due out next year (nothing more specific was mentioned in the press release) for everything now-gen: the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii and DS.
It looks like the game has it’s sights set well above your average movie tie-in, and you have to hand it to Phil Harrison - it looks like he’s got the Atari boat back on course after so many years of barely keeping afloat. Now, if I could just get that damned theme song out of my head…
Bob is upset. He just spent 5 years creating a game to be played on the Nintendo DS and Nintendo won’t sell him what he needs to actually market the game. So what is he doing? Sitting in his basement for 100 days to protest…
